Heya! Was hoping someone with experience could help me figure out how hard it is to get approved for elective c-section in the UK. And could help me to build my case for it!
I am 2nd time pregnant after emergency c-section 2.5 years ago. I am only in my first trimester and so far don’t have any specific recommendation for c-section. However for various reasons I would like to request elective one this time.
My main reason is mental health and stressful birth experience. I was desperately trying to request c-section with my first by the end, but everyone just kept offering diverse interventions to avoid it, just to end up having c-section anyway, but unexpected and stressed.
I am also mum of a toddler now with no support group other than my husband around…I simply can’t afford to have relatives hang around for weeks waiting till I go into labor so they can look after my older son
Just looking to hear your experience of getting successfully approved 🙏 I had a first midwife appointment and she booked me with consultant to discuss it

You don’t need to build a case - just state that you want a c-section. Explain you’ve considered your options and that’s how you want to give birth. Don’t give them a chance to persuade you otherwise. I was asked at my 12 week scan if I had thought about birth plan, I explained I wanted a C-section , they checked again at my 20week appointment and booked my date in there and then.
So, my advice would be, just tell them that’s how you want to have your baby.
Good luck :) x

Yes, you don’t need to build your case. Plus, if you mention that it’s due to mental health because of your previous experience, I’m pretty confident they wouldn’t say no to you.
I always wanted to have a natural one and I had to be induced, however, every time I spoke to a doctor or midwife, they always said that I could change my mind to a c section at any time! And that’s what I did as I had a horrendous experience from being induced.
Hope all goes well when the time comes ❤️

I agree with you about not having to have a case for an elective c section. I had originally planned to have an elective section with my daughter 3 months ago but ended up with an emergency section.
My healthcare team were supportive of mine and my wife’s decision to have an elective c section xxx

I just said to midwife I want a c section and I didn’t have to explain anything. They even encourage it sometimes.

Wanting an elective c section for any reason is absolutely fine. But if you’re asked and feel awkward I just said that I didn’t want to have another emergency c section. X

Given you were a c section for baby 1 I’m surprised they’re not pushing you for a c section for baby 2 given it’s the usually recommended option. Just keep saying it’s what you want and make sure they book it in for you. I think once you’re having regular community midwife appointments it’ll come up as they’ll be asking you if you’ve considered your birthing preferences but you can definitely tell them it’s what you want :)

It’s completely your choice! I’m also surprised they’re not encouraging it as usually it’s vbacs they are less supportive of. Sounds like you are doing the right thing!

Similar experience here and there's no need to make a case. All they want to do is ensure you're making an informed decision so if you're a candidate for vbac they'll explain the process just so you are aware of it but the consultant always said to me "it is absolutely your choice". Especially with a previous c section there really is no need to go deep into a conversation about it as you know what you're in for. With it being mental health related that is absolutely valid.

You won't need to make a case lovely for you wellbeing a babies it will most likely be recommended for a elective c section anyways I had a emergency c section in Feb and no way will I be wanting a vbac on my next pregnancy I know some people have successfully done a vbac but the thought of rupture terrifies me 🤣 X you will speak with your network of midwives etc to establish what's best for you aswell xx

No case needed. Your body your choice. I had a vaginal delivery first time but ended up with forceps delivery and wound breakdown followed by reconstruction afterward. Ended up pregnant within a few months. I didn’t want to undergo the issues I had after my first and was supported throughout.
Hi my baby girl cord came off and it looks like this should I be worried?

Hey moms, my 6 month old keeps on having these involuntary arm flings on his one arm. I am wondering if it is totally normal?
The reason I’m concerned is because one week ago I had a fall while wearing him in the carrier which was a huge scare. At the hospital they did all the checks including an ultrasound of the brain through his Fontanelle which showed everything was completely as it should be, and he had no signs of the fall at all. But since then I noticed the arm movements and can’t remember if it happened before, it’s totally normal that it’s happening and if I’m being a bit paranoid post trauma from the fall, or it could be linked in any way that I need another opinion?
Advice please!

Due to get induced due to low Papp-a 40+1 but I really don’t want an Induction so I’m starting to consider an elective csection instead so I still have positive experience alongside more control?

I’ve had a lot of period type cramps the last few days. They’re noticeable but not unbearable. I am 8 weeks 3 days, but anywhere between 7,5and 8,3 realistically. I can’t remember having cramping with my first, and this has got me worried.
