New born baby Essentials

Hi Mamas,
Hope all are doing well :) :)

I am 24 weeks pregnant, I just wanted to ask as to what would be considered as "must buys" for a newborn and any suggestions as to the best place to shop for them.
Thanks ××

I love the NoseFrida. It’s easy to clean and I didn’t realize how often I’d actually need to clear a newborn’s nose.

Someone got me a first aid kit from Amazon. It has a thermometer, nail clippers, nose suction, and other things. It seems like it will be really helpful

The books say to buy as few newborn outfits as possible because they grow out of them so quickly but I completely disagree. My boy was born small anyway but he has 2-3 clothes changes a day and he is sick and wees on his fitted sheets - you needs loads of clothes and sheets - loads!!! And you have to wash a lot 😂

I’ll post some pics of the checklist I’ve written myself - hope it helps xx

Nose Frida, halo swaddle, finger nail clippers, snuggle me, a million diapers. I have a 6 week old and these have all been must have items for me

Swaddles! We didn’t dress our son in clothes for the first two weeks except for doctors appointments. Make sure you have Soooo many diapers and wipes! Mainly make sure you have everything YOU need...postpartum care, groceries, etc.

I got all the clothes and majority if equipment used frim ebay/gumtree. this way it is very cheap, also newborn clothes are often worn once or not at all. I bought 7 of short and long sleeve and jumpsuits. And 2 hats. I recommend woven wrap if you think of baby wearing. You can use it from birth. It helped us from the beginning to put our baby to sleep and gave me some rest while my partner was wearing the baby!

6 onesies, lots of washcloths (we use for spit ups as well), 2x swaddle blankets, 2x sleep sack, newborn thermometer, nail clippers, my breast friend (if you’re breast feeding), bassinet, a box of newborn diapers (buy more later if you need them), 2x towel, baby soap, body lotion, Vaseline/bum cream, variety of baby wipes (you’ll eventually figure out a brand you like), nasal aspirator

To me the essentials are grooming kit/healthcare kit, their nails grow like crazy!! Also loads of baby cloths, and a sling.
I would say don’t get too many newborn clothes, is best if you get more of the 3-6 months ones.
I got a breastfeeding pillow and to me is useless, but if you want to, give it a go,it can be good for you especially at the start when babies are floppy.
And the basic like nappies, wipes, pram, cot, bath...

More burp cloths than you think you need! 0-3 onesies are a good size and will last a while. The lounger and Boppy - and a lactation consultant to talk to if you are going to breastfeed immediately!! And think about your own recovery too! If vaginal, Tucks pads and thick hygiene pads! And dermoplast (everyone always forgets the mom after!)

shower infront of children

Is it weird to shower infront of your children, or your children see you naked?
At what age should this stop?

I’m just looking at what everyone’s thoughts are as I have a 7 month old and at the moment it’s hard for me to shower without him getting upset.

We contact nap atm, otherwise I'd shower when he sleeps!

It’s easier to bring his play mat into the bathroom whilst I shower so i can at least wash, else i have to wait for my husband to arrive home at 5/6pm.

Keen to see what people's opinions are and how other people do this!

GIRL DADS TAKING DAUGHTER TO BATHROOM IN PUBLIC

If a girl dad needs to take his daughter to the bathroom in public and there are no family bathrooms … I swear video online of a dad saying he uses the women’s bathroom but always knocks and announces ‘girl dad helping my daughter go to the bathroom’ and I love that idea and mens rooms are disgusting but wanted to see everyone’s thoughts

Dummies

What’s everyone’s views on dummies? Are you planning to use them and if so at what age ? I am breastfeeding and my midwife said to avoid them as it might effect feeding but baby is feeding really well now and he has now found his thumb to suck for comfort ! I would prefer him to use a sterilised dummy than his hands that might carry germs but he is only 3.5 weeks not sure if it’s too early ?

Ebf bottle refusal

I want to introduce a bottle so my partner and mum can feed baby every so often but she hates it! Have tried breast milk and formula and am using mam bottles. She also isn’t a fan of dummies. Goal is to give her formula as I hate pumping!
