Just looking for opinions and others birth stories! My midwife told me to labor at home as long as possible which I want to do. I’m 37 weeks right now and have been fortunate with a great pregnancy and no complications but she said I’ll be in labor at least 8 hours before having to go to the birth center. I’m just worried I’ll have to give birth at home or in the car, since babies come on their own time! Did anyone have similar experiences to their own mothers birth experiences also? I’ve heard this can be true!

I woke up at 1am with contractions, I really wanted to stay at home as long as possible so I didn’t even wake my partner up (figured it would go on for a long time and at least one of us should be well rested) so I laboured through the night on my own, I wandered around, lent over the sink, bounced on the birthing ball, had a shower... whatever felt right. I made it to 6am before my partner woke up because I couldn’t keep quiet anymore 😂 I was convinced that because it was my first labour it was going to go on for hours but rang the hospital as I had started bleeding and they said to come in. I was genuinely worried I wouldn’t make it to the car because my legs kept giving way at every contraction and they were coming thick and fast but I managed it. The car ride was pretty hilarious looking back and I literally ran into the labour ward inbetweeen contractions. Then they made me sit in the waiting area (I couldn’t sit no way) I think they thought the same as me... first time labour...

I started feeling uncomfortable around 12am, but went back to sleep since i thought it was just gas. I woke up at 8am and realized that my parents were about to leave and i had a bad feeling something was wrong, so i ran to the garage door to tell them not to go anywhere. As i was standing in the door way yelling for them to stay home, my water broke. They got me in the car and we rush to the hospital, i call my husband whos at work to meet us there. We all arrive at the same time and my hospital swears my water never broke. I sat in the parking lot for 2 hours and went back in, they said it still hadnt broken (i was leaking the whole time) so they tell me to go home, mind you i haven't felt a contraction this whole time. I get back home, and within 2 hours i feel the contractions. I was traumatized by the way i was treated at the hospital so i refused to go back because i didnt want to be turned away again. I was in labor for 36 hours, no tears and 1 abrasion. First birth

I had no contractions that I could feel until after my water broke. But when they came oh God, they were strong. My water broke around 2:30 am and by 3:30 am we were driving to the hospital. When o got there I was already 6 cm. By 7:30am I had 10 cm and was ready to push him out. There was no way I would have done without an epidural. I admire the mammas who can bare the pain.

My labor was 12 hours I had to be induced and the nurse almost killed him on accident. On the other hand she had a 16 hour shift that evening.

My constructions started really close together at 2 min apart right off the bat. I labored at home for an hour then felt like I needed to go in with contractions being 2 min apart consistantly for an hour. When I got there my water broke, just like the movies lol. 💕

No was in labour for 4 days

24 hours from first contraction to delivery with 11 hours of active labor x

My first cramp (like a period pain) was at 03.12 and I gave birth at 06.14!! First baby!

It’s really varies . I was induced with my First and in labor for 16 hours 😩.

Had my first contraction at 7 am which I thought was just Braxton Hicks and went back to bed. Woke up at 9 am feeling more crampy and brushed it off again not thinking I was in labour. I had my baby girl 2.5 hours later! Barely made it to the hospital almost had her in my moms car where my water broke. Wheeled me quickly up to maternity ward where I felt the head coming. Put me on table to check to see how far dilated I was and and said ‘ oh wow she’s fully dilated baby’s coming right now” 3 pushes she was out. My husband missed it she came so fast 😫😂 no Epidural either there was no time I had my baby girl all natural. I have a high pain tolerance lol. They say when I have a second child to rushhhhh if I feel and contractions!

From first contraction to delivery was 12 hours, stayed at home as long as possible got to hospital at 6pm 9 cm dilated, was in active labour at half past 6 then my little one was born at 6.50 so was really fast once i was in active labour, didnt have time for pain relief when i got there or anything

I was in labor for 23 hours but active labor was around 6 hours with 2 hours of pushing.

First contractions were 10pm one night and baby was born at 11:36pm the next night. Laboured at home until contractions were 4 minutes apart (start to start), lasting 1 minute, for 1 hour (4-1-1 rule). Called midwife who came to check me at 7:30pm, was 6/7 cm so headed to hospital. Pushed for 90 minutes (baby had hand up by her forehead which slowed things down but we didn't know).

I was in labor for 15 hours but I was induced

I was induced and from start to finish was 10 hours 😊

I got bad contractions around midnight, phoned them and they said if I can wait it out at home and it’s not too bad them stay at home as long as possible. Got too bad at 5am and went hospital, had him at just gone 7am. I slept from midnight to half 4 and was already 7cm when I got to hospital 🤦🏻♂️😂

I'd say mine was pretty quick. I was induced at 38 weeks with twins. They started drugs around 1:30am. I never felt the contractions so I just laid there are tried to sleep lol. I got an epidural around 8am and had my twins (naturally) at 9am. Felt quick to me.

1st time around 12hours in total x

My water broke at 5pm. I didnt have my son until 10:12 the next night. I didnt start having contractions on my own so after 8 hours when I only dilated another half cm (water broke at 1/2 I was a 1 the next morn) they started me on pitocin. I wasn't a 10 until about 6pm. I pushed for 3 hours

Exactly 6 hours. I started having contractions at 8am and she was born at 2pm exactly. I got to the hospital around 9:30 and was in triage until 1 pm (they didn’t have any open rooms) As soon as I got into the room I took a jacuzzi bath. Ten minutes later I knew it was time

I had a very quick labor, just like my mom. She went to the hospital at noon, I was born at 4pm. I woke up at 5.30am with contractions (not too painful, I was still able to shower and have breakfast), my son was born at 8.30am. One more red light and he would have been born in the car

In labor to my knowledge means the pushing part, no? I had contractions building up over 16 hrs, the last 4 in the hospital. Half hour pushing.

Water breaking to birth 23.5 hours. But at the 9.5 hour mark I was dilated to a 7 and contractions were 3 min apart

My water was leaking too much so the dr ended up inducing me at 35 weeks. Induction was around 2 pm and my son was born at 5:12 pm.

Hi yes I started having contractions at 4am showered, made it to the hospital round 5am and had my son around 8am would of been sooner but that boy head wouldn't corporate 🤣

Nope. 16 hours 👍🏻

I was in labor for probably 30 hours before I went on. Contractions weren’t close enough to go in. Was then in labor another 27 at the hospital before giving birth.

11 hours and 16 mins.
It’s a little presumptuous to say you’ll be in labor for x amount of time prior to going in... it’s different for everyone. I had a friend who labored at home for 30 mins and had her baby within 15 mins of getting to the hospital, and another who labored at home for 24 hours then at the hospital for another 24. The baby will come when it wants to. Don’t make a plan, just have ‘birth wishes’ and be willing to adjust.
My labor story:
I had a very good pregnant no complications until the glucose test at 24 ish weeks. I passed out waiting For results and ended up having fainting spells from low blood sugars (40-50s) the rest of the pregnancy. At 37 weeks my dr suggested I get induced at 38 weeks, I was still feeling good at my 38 week appointment so on Wednesday she said I could wait another week, but that Saturday morning at 38+3 my water broke at 5 am (I was so happy my water broke) ....

My first baby I was in labour from my waters breaking, then contractions starting to delivery for 13hs.
With my second it was 2hrs40mins. From both labours, it’s noticeable once your in progressive establish labour probably once your 6cm plus, as it becomes a lot more intense, and my contractions then weren’t just around my back they then wrapped my entire pelvis, and I couldn’t keep still at that point.
I spent most of my second labour due to covid drug free, even no gas and air and it wasn’t until the end I found it unbearable for the last hour. By which time, you could get to a hospital.
You will be fine! Don’t worry, once they are regularly apart and feeling more intense just keep ringing the triage team and they will let go in.

I was told to labor at home as long as possible too, which made me hesitant to go to the hospital, but my water broke, started having contractions almost immediately and I gave birth within 8 hours. My husband had to drag me out of the house to go to the hospital b/c i was so convinced we had more time. I was 6 cm dilated when we got there and the baby came rather quickly. I'm glad I didn't wait.

I was induced, from the moment they started the pitocin to the moment when my baby was placed on my chest = 7 hrs.
If I would be you, I would go to the hospital once I started feeling real contractions and requested epidural immediately.

My first labor from start to finish was 10 hours. My second labor from start to finish was a little longer, 11 hours. I had no Braxton Hicks or contractions at all until labor started, and my contractions were immediately 2 minutes apart.

I was 8 hours at home and 4 hours in the hospital..

I was in latent back labour for a day and a half before we went to the hospital. I was delirious having not slept, eaten or even really sat down because of the back pain. Once I was in and had the beautiful epidural it all got better as I could rest. Woke up after a few hours ready to push 😁

Follow the 5-1-1 rule. I have a connective tissue disorder so they told me to come in more like 7-11 to be safe, because baby could come quickly. I had my first contraction 12:30 am, and woke up again at 3:30 am to them being 3m apart and 15s long each, which i stayed up recording in pain until 4:30 lol. We got to the hospital around 5:30, and got an epidural which slowed things down. Baby came 4:46pm after less than 10m pushing

Hi there! I definitely agree that you should labor at home as long as possible. For me I could tell when I went from having irregular contractions to timing them as they became regular. I started feeling contractions at 11pm and by the next morning they were excruciating. My husband and I just received our baby’s crib that morning and he asked if I thought I could make it until he finished. That was a good goal for me. We confirmed with my doctor that I should leave when they were 4-5mins apart. My husband finished building around 11:30am and we left by 12pm when the contractions were 5mins apart. I’m glad we didn’t go earlier because I probably would have wanted an epidural, but by the time I went was 8cm dilated and already so used to the pain. I spent about an hour parking and checking in and laboured at the hospital until 5pm. Pushing was hardest part for me, but my doctor was good at coaching me through it and massaging me with vitamin e oil to help prevent tearing as baby came out. Best prayers to you!

My first child was a boy and I was in labor for 46 hours. I’m a nurse now but then I was a new grad and felt okay enough to take my state board a few hours after they started. It took about a day for the contractions to get really bad but I didn’t go to the hospital until I was about 36 hours in and 4cm dilated. I refused to get sent back home so I stayed home as long as possible. I pushed for 3 hrs all to
have an emergency c section bc he wouldn’t advance further.
W/ my 2nd baby, my daughter was a vbac (vaginal birth after c-section) I was on the way to the hospital about an hr after labor and she was born naturally in only 11 hrs of labor and 1 hr of pushing.

My first was less than 24 hours from the very first twinge. Only in active labour for 3 hours. I felt a tiny twinge at 6am and only noticed because I was lying quietly in bed. They steadily got stronger all day but I could talk and get on with my day. By 11:30pm I was breathing through and using my birth ball but still nothing I wasn’t comfortable with. Waters broke at 1:30am and in hospital by 2:30am. I was five cm dilated on arrival and went straight in the pool. It was much stronger by then but I only had gas and air and I was fine. Baby was born at 5am. ☺️ don’t listen to the horror stories! I practiced hypnobirthing and it was amazing. Xxx

Hmm all depends on the gap between contractions. I had a short labour which was my first. My contractions started at 6pm and I gave birth at 10.08pm but everyone is different. If contractions are coming close together phone the birthing suite and they’ll ask how many minutes between and advise you when to call back or even head on in x

Waters broke at 11pm. When to hispital at 7am for a check & was 4cm, so stayed in. Lg wad born 8am the day after via forceps. So about 33hrs overall for me.
We are all different tbh you won't know until it starts how quickly it will get intense & how long it will take. You just have to go with the flow and your instincts really.

15 hours of labor with my first. 17 hours of labor with my second.

Hey, I was super quick! My waters broke at 11pm and by 4am, I was 7cm dilated. The midwife didn’t believe how quickly my contractions matured and tried sending me home for sleep!!!Luckily I refused and stayed in the hospital. My baby was born at 10am the next day. So 11 hours from waters breaking to birth.. it was intense to say the least but overall euphoric!
I know midwives are there to help but sometimes, go with your gut and do what you think it best, their advice is not always sound.

My little girl is nearly 11 weeks old, she is my first baby and my labour was very quick at the hospital. I had a trapped wind feeling at 1.30pm by 4.30pm it had moved to period pains so I realised it was start of contractions. I took 2 paracetamol and I rang the birthing suite and they said wait until it feels like they are 5 minutes appart of cramping. By 6.30pm we were at the hospital and I was 5cm dilated. I got in the birthing pool at 7pm. Had gas and air at 7.30pm and my baby girl was born at 8.54pm in her sack :) While I was having the contractions at home I was bouncing on the birthing ball while watching some of my favourite programmes which kept me calm and occupied xx

I've been in early labour for 2 weeks now. I'm a FTM. I'm approaching 40weeks.

I laboured at home for around 10 hours which got me to 5cm then from admission to hospital (5cm) to birth it was another 10 hours or so. Definitely not a quick process for me x

I was induced as my son wasn't growing, I was induced on Tuesday and gave birth Thursday at 8pm. I had the epidural and I had a 12 hour labour x

Labor can take a while in my experience i waited 12 hours before giving birth therefore i do agree you should wait until your contractions are 30 seconds apart, trust me you will know when the baby is about to come.

I know all labour and birthing experiences can be different but I wouldn't let yourself worry too much about giving birth quickly and getting to hospital on time. I was in latent labour for 3 days, it was exhausting and at the time felt like I would never get close to having my baby. I phoned the labour ward quite a few times but they could tell I wasn't close to giving birth due to my contraction pattern. I found a birthing ball, hot water bottle for back pain, paracetamol and baths we're all that helped coping with it at home. I eventually went into hospital on the Thu morning as the pain had become unbearable I was still only 2cm dilated so ended up being induced and having waters broke but eventually due to miconium in waters I had an emergency c section and my little girl was born at 7.07pm. Not what I expected and not at all fast 😂 but you will know when your little one is on its way and trust in your instincts and your body knowing what it needs to do. Good luck with everything 💜

First labour was 36 hours 😬 so I’m hoping this time it’s quicker!!

I was induced at 12pm, contractions began around 1:30pm. My waters broke at 4:30pm, I was still 1cm at 6:30pm and at 9:45pm I felt I had to push, at 9:55pm I was finally told I was 10cm and could push and after 3 pushes my little girl was born at 10:07pm 😌
