How do you safely lose weight while pregnant?

I am over weight and don't want to gain weight during this pregnancy. How can I manage my weight and potentially lose weight without harming the baby?
Im only 5 weeks pregnant now. With my daughter I ended up have high blood pressure my entire pregnancy, the last few weeks I was on a strict bed rest and I was in pretty bad shape, that went on for 2 months postpartum.
So I worry that if I start a workout program or something that I might cause harm to the baby? I was about 35 to 40lbs lighter going into the last pregnancy!

Working out lightly isn't going to hurt your baby. I think eating a sensible low calorie diet will also be fine. I ate tons of salad with my most recent pregnancy. We both gained normal healthy weight. I snacked a lot too with fruits and veggies.

I'm going through this too. Like the other ladies mentioned, walking is really good as is eating lots of fruits and veggies! Ive been able to lose 15 pounds in my 1st trimester. Listen to your body with exercising. I've found it hard to eat, but protein bars help a lot and tend to be a healthier snack too :)

I lost about 15lbs when I was pregnant. I was also very sick a lot. The only things I could really keep down is broth, water and sometimes fresh fruit. It was like this for a solid 2 months. Very rarely was I able to keep down meat and only if I hadn’t smelt it be cooked.

Im 23 weeks and have lost 12kgs so far. Its literally been due to eating better as I have diabetes

Start walking more the more you move the better.
, fill your plate with good low calorie veg and lots of protein. The likes of carbs are an energy source so be smart with them think a 1/4 of your plate the rest should be protein and veg. And drink tons of water

I was forced to eat low carbs because I was diagnosed with diabetes 2. I have to walk atleast 30 minutes a day. The doctor told me it was okay to lose weight since I had plenty already and I have lost over 20 pounds and I'm 30 weeks. So just eat healthy and walk everyday and you should be fine. :D Also its okay to have sweets every once in a while, just don't make it a ever day thing.

The short answer is don’t.

I’m overweight but was advised not to try losing weight when pregnant. It can do more harm than staying overweight apparently.

I didn’t try but have dropped my BMI without trying. I think my appetite naturally changed and the more pregnant I got, the less i physically could eat.

Definitely consult with your OB about your concerns and I’m sure they will have ways for you and your baby to stay healthy throughout the pregnancy.
I’m not a healthcare provider and have only done my own researched but it seems the general consensus is that weight loss should not be the goal during pregnancy.
Focus on healthy, Whole Foods instead of processed foods, get plenty of water, fruits, veggies and protein from good quality meats( or otherwise if you are vegetarian) and ask your OB how to stay active in ways that will support you and baby ā¤ļø

Get a nutritionist or personal trainer to make you a meal plan. If you don’t know anyone send me a pm. I know a lot of good personal trainers

Whole plant foods are extremely nutrient dense but low calorie. Allow yourself adequate calories and moderate exercise.

Drink only water.

Take your prenatal supplement to ensure you're getting all the vitamins and nutrients you and baby need.

I’m following this for advice as well. I’m a little under 200 pounds and want to stay healthy during this pregnancy. I’m five weeks pregnant

Talk to your doctor.

I was just curious on recommended weight gain for pregnancy in a Google search earlier and US health recommendations are even if mom is in an obese BMI 10-15lb weight gain is recommended.

First Midwife Appointment

I had my first midwife appointment yesterday, I've been left full of worry is this normal?

She came to my house, she was so lovely I do feel lucky to have such a good midwife. The meeting was about an hour and a half.

There was so much information to take in I was very overwhelmed!
She went through all the scans testing etc, I never knew there could be so much 'wrong' with a baby. I have now booked an early scan I am freaking out.

I've been googling statistics all morning

Braxton Hicks vs early labour — anyone experienced this?

Hi everyone,
I’m wondering if anyone has experienced going into labour with only Braxton Hicks contractions — so more like discomfort or tightening rather than actual pain — and not realising that labour had started.
I’m currently 39+3 and had a sweep yesterday. I’m already 1 cm dilated, baby is 1/5 engaged, and the midwife said she could feel the baby’s head. My cervix is soft and short, so all the signs seem positive — it feels like we’re just waiting for baby to arrive now.
During my appointment, the midwife also noticed I was having 2–3 contractions (just tightening in my bump) without any pain. She mentioned that some women can go into labour without realising it and advised me to keep an eye on them. She even suggested that what I’ve been feeling so far might be what’s helped me get to this stage.
So I’d love to hear if anyone has had a similar experience — I know it’s not impossible!
Thank you 😊

What if I don’t want an induction?

Hi everyone, I’m 39+1 weeks, my next midwife appt is on my due date which I am happy about however hope I go into labour before then. I have had slight twinges and small pains, however nothing has happened yet and I am gutted as I really don’t want any type of induction. Say I get to 41+ weeks, and I don’t want any type of induction, what happens then? This might be a very silly question but my midwife isn’t helpful and would rather hear from others as opposed to doctor Google. Thanksss! X

Soft spot concern

I took my little boy into the doctors for a chest infection earlier and they said she concerned over his soft spot hasn't closed yet and is quite sunken.. but he's not dehydrated and putting on weight well, so have done some type of advice and guidance to paeds and said they may want to look at his brain/head or may be nothing, called a doctor in and he said he'd never seen anything like it even working in paeds, which has now made me worry. Anyone else had the same or similar?🄺😭

How many people can stay in hospital

Hi all, do you know how many people can stay with you in the hospital after your delivery in the recovery room? Mine is a planned C-section at Homerton. Do they allow more than 1?
