FTM here. So when I bring my baby home from the hospital, should I be waking him up every 2-3 hours to feed or should he be waking ME up to let me know he’s hungry? Is there a right way to do this?

In the beginning I always made sure to feed my daughter every 2-3 hours as they tend to lose weight the first week but should be putting weight back on as the weeks go by. As time went on around 3-4 months we had more of a schedule and I wouldn’t wake her if she slept well at night but during the day I always made sure to feed her 2-3 hours and helps with differentiating between day and night!

I did every 2-3 hours during the day the. Let him wake me at night!

Usually they recommend waking them every 2/3 hours until they reach their birth weight - most babies lose weight right after birth. Typically, once they regain the initial weight lost, it’s fine to let them sleep longer stretches.
Once they reached their birthweight, I woke them to eat every 3 hours during the day and let them sleep however long they wanted at night.
Both of mine woke up naturally every 3/4hours for about 2 months.

Babies tend to lose weight after birth so it’s important to make sure they are getting a feeding in every 2-3hrs. Once my little one reached his birth weight, I made sure to still wake him every 3hrs during the day, but I let him wake me up during the night and let him sleep.

I waited till she gained her birth weight back. But since she was in the NICU. She had already done this by the time I got her back home. So I was just letting her wake me when she was hungry. But I would definitely wait until your Lo gets his birth weight back or over it. My baby was over her birth weight.
