C-section recovery tips

I'm 37 weeks pregnant and due my c section on the 1st of November, to the mamas who have had c section before, what would you say helped with recovery? From items to anything else, I'm quite nervous since everyone's experience is so different!

Make sure your shampoo etc in your shower at home is at waist height or higher - you won’t want to be bending to the floor to pick things up for a while.
Don’t feel tempted to lift heavy things, make sure you change baby on the table not the floor to avoid pulling your scar.
High waisted loose clothing - nighties and xxxl knickers will be your saviour!

Take all the pain relief they give you! And when you get home keep on top of them for the first few weeks!
Something I really recommended when your scar is healed 2-3months after massage the scar when you are in the shower. Apparently it stops scar tissue attaching to the scar and prevents any issues or pain further down the line! I did it with my first! Xx

Take paracetamol and ibuprofen every four hours religiously! If I was late to take them I was in pain but on the whole it sorted the pain out completely

Didn't have a C-section yet but did have ectopic surgery which is similar. 1) If they don't offer it ask for a stomach binder at the hospital. I didn't get one and a few days after my surgery my good friend gave me her binder she had from her C-section and it was like a hug from God. The support made moving around so much easier. 2) have a pillow in your car so on the way home you can put that on your lower abdomen and it helps if any bumps on the road or sudden stops. 3) Don't try and be a hero, if you hurt take something!

I had a C Section last Tuesday - make sure you keep on top of washing it, warm water but no soap, the water feels very soothing but make sure you dry it properly! Don’t drag the towel over it, just dab lightly. Use a fan a couple times during the day, lift your bump and let the fan dry your stitches to keep it from getting sweaty. Take it easy!! It will hurt, mine still does but it’s a darn sight less painful than when I had it a week ago.

The best advice a nurse gave me: ‘although as soon as you start moving around and walking, it’ll feel most natural to hunch over, don’t! Try as much as possible to walk and stand straight otherwise it could heal in the hunched position and you’re fucked in the future’

Let people help! My boyfriend does everything and I feel so terrible sometimes but it’s when I get up to do it, and hurt myself that I realise I can’t! Not if I’m gonna heal properly!

Good luck!💕

Torn up strips of muslin on top of your healing scar keep the area dry and clean, wash and air dry daily. Watch your ibuprofen doses, yes you can have then 4 hourly but no more than 3 doses in 24hours, I decided to spread my ibuprofen to 6hr doses to give better coverage. I found it useful when friends and family wanted to come visiting they always asked "can we bring anything", asked them to get paracetamol and ibuprofen due to limits when buying, meant I never went without. I also made up 2 large sports bottles with squash on a morning and made myself drink plenty too. When yoy begin to feel mobile plan a VERY short walking route to go with pram, if it was easy enough you can always do it twice, I planned a little too long route and halfway round was struggling but had no choice but to do the rest as I was the furthest away from home 🙈

Honestly I’ve had 3 sections and the only thing I can say is a nice nurse looking after you and rest! First 2 didn’t have very nice nurses looking after me, my 3rd was lovely and helped me get dressed and just made me feel okay, rest and no stress is the best for recovery, make sure you tell the nurse when you want medication, and she will keep note as soon as your due she will give it you, sometimes they can fall a little behind if busy so keep on at them for that, good luck xx

I’ve had two.
Biggest advice? Start taking Colace a couple days before you go into the hospital, and continue taking it when you’re there.

That is a game changer.
Also, order a 3 piece girdle for compression after! I got mine on Amazon.

And make sure to have lots of help the days after, roll on to your side when getting up, you won’t ge able to sit straight up!
Best of luck!

I’ve had 2 C sections. The best thing was to get moving as soon as you can. If you lay in bed all day that doesn’t help your body recover as quickly. Just get up and walk, and move. Stay on top of your pain meds too. Even if you feel like you might not need at that time, take it anyways. You don’t want the pain to get ahead and you can never ease it.

Get a girdle! It kept everything nice and tight and whenever you have to move always have a pillow for your tummy it helped me not feel so week

Thank you everyone, all of these suggestions are so helpful!xxx

Hey, if you plan on breast feeding I would suggest a v pillow as feeding your baby and holding them directly on your stomach is a killer the pillow helped me out and also for sleeping as I slept on my side. Do not over do it I did and ended up splitting my stitches and got infected. I healed again so well though. It's an uncomfortable recovery but as previous comments keep ontop of pain meds, i found lifting my arms to wash my hair as it pulled my tummy hurt so I got someone to wash it me if this isn't an option then dry shampoo! X

Things you wish you’d do before C-Section

I’m having my section on Sunday, and trying to write a bunch of ‘self-care’ type things I want to do before hand.
Now I’m not talking the practical things like setting up changing or feeding stations etc. I’m talking things for you like shaving your legs or dying your eyebrows 😂
I know from my last section that I’m not gunna feel my best so I want to do everything I can to feel good! I’ve got a fresh haircut already!
So what are some things you did / wish you did before your c section?

UK Mums: If you had an assigned midwife for your first pregnancy, but not your 2nd. Were you a bit disappointed?

For my first pregnancy I was blessed with having an assigned midwife that I saw every appointment. She was absolutely amazing, so I guess I was spoiled in that sense. This pregnancy, I see a different midwife every appointment and I am a bit disappointed. Before anyone jumps on my back I know it is not guaranteed to have an assigned midwife. It is just hard when each midwife answered my question differently at each appointment and it took the epilepsy clinic (was referred due to having seizures in the last) to give me the actual answer. I also keep getting told that if I have any general questions to contact MAU, but I always thought they were there for urgent matters? Anyways sorry for rambling, I am just a person that feels at ease with consistency 😭

Heart murmur

Took my 4 month old to the GP yesterday for something unrelated and when checking him over they heard a heart murmur. That didn’t say too much and scheduled another GP appointment for next week. Just wondering if any other mummas babies have had one and what their journeys were/if baby just grew out of it. Thank you x

First time leaving the house with newborn

Has anybody managed to step outside since the baby arrived? We were considering starting super local, 10 min by car to somewhere where we can go on a pram walk or cafe. But we were wondering if this is safe, given the baby has no vaccines yet. What’s everyone doing?
