Fetal Hiccups

I'm not sure if it is just me but I am so worried. I have been reading some awful things on goggle about the baby hiccuping in the womb. I'm 31 weeks and he hiccups on average 4-5 times a day... Is this normal and is anyone else experiencing this?

It's very normal. Everything that is said to be bad about it is outdated. They hiccup as a way to practice breathing and to strengthen their diaphragm muscles. It's extremely common and extremely normal 🙂

This happened to me! Baby hiccuped a lot once he was out of the womb too. After a few months he outgrew them. Nothing to be concerned about 😌

Definitely normal 💜

What does it feel like? The hiccups

Hi Hannah, my baby was forever hiccuping in the womb and like you I googled it and it too terrified me, but despite wht I read baby is here now and still not stop hiccuping!! When I had a growth scan at 37weeks the midwife said "she has soo much hair has she been hiccuping?" so hopefully your lil one is going to have a lot more of hair. Don't forget they are drinking the amniotic fluid, this could be all it is as their digestive tract develops causing hiccup. Make sure your movements are normal and if you are ever worried contact your midwife. It won't be long till your getting more closely monitored and baby is here! Please you have to tell me if your little comes out with a full head of hair!!

Super normal! I know how you feel though. My baby had hiccups several times a day pretty much every day up until he was born, and now he still has hiccups a couple times a day.

Totally normal! My son had them at least 3 times a day. My daughter a little less but definitely daily.

Feels like they are bouncing! So sweet and reassuring. Means they are developing well!

Thank you ladies. I get so anxious and know google is not great for any pregnant mummy and her symptoms. I find myself fearing the worst sometimes but must remain positive and be reassured it is just me being silly ❤️

Absolutely normal- most babies do it. Don’t google stuff, it’s scaremongering and anxiety inducing.

My baby had hiccups several times a day, most days especially towards the end of pregnancy. He’s absolutely perfect, and still gets hiccups all the time in the outside world!

Avatar

Completely normal. They don’t hurt the baby.

I saw Same thing but my son turned out fine. He hiccuped almost every day at least 2x a day. He was perfectly healthy!

Google is the worst. My LO had hiccups entire pregnancy and still gets them 1-2 times a day! Dr was never worried

Avatar

Completely normal! Both my older kids seemed to have them constantly and this one does on a regular basis too. My mum used to say its because they're growing but I'm pretty sure that's just an old wives tale lol!

Avatar

My babies all had hiccups some way more than others. They are all happy and healthy. My drs told me it was good for their lungs, let me tell you the ones with more... oof could they scream!

Avatar

According to a lot of what I read, hiccups may be part of lung development.

I’ve had 6 babies/6 pregnancies and all of them always had hiccups (& all babies are healthy!) ! I never thought it was bad, I loved the movement and I would rub my tummy so they’d feel comforted until hiccups were over ❤️

Avatar

My baby hiccuped in the womb a lot more than that from 31 weeks and up, he's 3 1/2 months old and perfectly fine 😁

Avatar

My little girl was exactly the same and she still gets them at least once a day now ! Health visitor not concerned

Avatar

My first boy used to hiccup all the bloody time to the point it was annoying. Xx

Avatar

Super normal!

Avatar

Definitely normal they’re just getting the hang of using their lungs and the hiccups are a sign of them developing breathing skills.

Avatar

Have 9 beautiful children :) they all had hiccups inside the womb some a lot more than others and they are all just fine ❤️
That’s actually a sign baby is doing what he/she should 👌❤️🥰

Avatar

Totally normal, and actually very healthy reassuring sign!!! Anything that says otherwise is just google nonsense 💖💖 dont worth xxxx

My OB told me not to believe what google says about fetal hiccups, he said they're normal if they only happen occasionally or if they happen multiple times a day. Mine hiccupped a lot in the womb and after she was born, it's normal for newborns to hiccup a lot too.

Avatar

My little boy had 6/8 hiccups a day and some days it was annoying as he was head down so it was putting even more pressure down my 🌸! But he came out absolutely healthy xx

Avatar

Totally normal! Mine was hiccuping several times a day through to her birth and she still does now and she’s 14 weeks old 🙈

Avatar

Oh lord my baby had hiccups constantly like way way more than that when I was pregnant. He'll be 10 months Saturday and is perfectly healthy. It continued on for months after birth too. Pediatrician said if he hiccuped alot during pregnancy then its completely normal for him to hiccup just as much after birth. Now he only gets them if he laughs really hard.

Avatar

Mine had hiccups all the time!

Avatar

Thank you for reassuring me ladies. I feel silly now x

Avatar

Absolutely 🥰 it is cute

Avatar

I laughed really hard yesterday cause mine hiccuped to the beat of an Adele song. She does it multiple times a day and my doctors said that’s fine.

Okay i was wondering the same thing .. how long should it last ???

Heart murmur

Took my 4 month old to the GP yesterday for something unrelated and when checking him over they heard a heart murmur. That didn’t say too much and scheduled another GP appointment for next week. Just wondering if any other mummas babies have had one and what their journeys were/if baby just grew out of it. Thank you x

UK Mums: If you had an assigned midwife for your first pregnancy, but not your 2nd. Were you a bit disappointed?

For my first pregnancy I was blessed with having an assigned midwife that I saw every appointment. She was absolutely amazing, so I guess I was spoiled in that sense. This pregnancy, I see a different midwife every appointment and I am a bit disappointed. Before anyone jumps on my back I know it is not guaranteed to have an assigned midwife. It is just hard when each midwife answered my question differently at each appointment and it took the epilepsy clinic (was referred due to having seizures in the last) to give me the actual answer. I also keep getting told that if I have any general questions to contact MAU, but I always thought they were there for urgent matters? Anyways sorry for rambling, I am just a person that feels at ease with consistency 😭

Things you wish you’d do before C-Section

I’m having my section on Sunday, and trying to write a bunch of ‘self-care’ type things I want to do before hand.
Now I’m not talking the practical things like setting up changing or feeding stations etc. I’m talking things for you like shaving your legs or dying your eyebrows 😂
I know from my last section that I’m not gunna feel my best so I want to do everything I can to feel good! I’ve got a fresh haircut already!
So what are some things you did / wish you did before your c section?

First time leaving the house with newborn

Has anybody managed to step outside since the baby arrived? We were considering starting super local, 10 min by car to somewhere where we can go on a pram walk or cafe. But we were wondering if this is safe, given the baby has no vaccines yet. What’s everyone doing?
