I keep seeing mixed information on this. I can’t eat a well done steak just doesn’t taste nice for me and I’m seriously craving some steak!

I had steak like this for valentines after midwife said it was fine as a one off. Maybe ask yours for advice before just going for it.
I’m the same with well done. Can’t swallow it

No, gotta be well done 😒 I prefer mine medium too

Medium should be fine honestly :) rare/medium rare is a no because the internal temperature does not get high enough, with medium it should get high enough to kill the parasite x

I had a few pieces of medium steak throughout my pregnancy. I think you’ll just need to make sure it’s from a reputable source and eat it in moderation.
Though I can’t wait to go back to eating medium rare after baby comes out! 😆

My midwife told me that as long as the middle is hot (so no rare or blue) is was totally fine

NHS suggests you avoid raw or undercooked meats so medium steak would fit into this. I also prefer mine medium. I have eaten a well-done steak during pregnancy and I’ve found it’s ok provided it’s a good quality steak that is still juicy when well cooked but I can understand what you mean. A lot of well done steak can be unpleasant and tough.

I ate medium steak all through my pregnancy. My kiddo is just fine.

I didn’t know I was pregnant til 20 weeks and ate a rare steak every week up until I found out 🤭

Well-done steak is gross i couldnt even deal with medium well. I am a rare or medium rare girl. I had it about 3 times whilst pregnant each time i had it medium, my little girl was fine. I just didnt risk cooking it myself pregnant so each time was out to eat at steakhouses cooked by a pro 🧑🍳

Here's my trick: buy really fatty steak. You want fat around it and through it if you can. Then you cook it to medium-well, so it's just a little bit pink right in the thickest part. All the fat will melt into it as its cooking so it'll keep it very juicy, melt in your mouth.
Steak is very good for you and the fat isn't bad for you. I eat steak 4 times per week at least (the fattiest i can find) and I've gained 4 lbs in my entire pregnancy (33 weeks now).

I’ve been cooking mine from home and cutting it up so I can check each piece to check it’s a little more done than pink and no blood! I’ve been fine doing it that way.

I wouldn’t, my friend risked it once and ended up getting the infection you can get from it so nearly had to be induced early xx

I prefer mine medium so I waited 9 months for a steak 😂🥺

My midwife said as long as it’s seared on the outside that kills all the bacteria that makes it dangerous eat it how ever you like it girl!

I had one on valentines but had hubby cook it medium for me, I prefer rare as well but midwife had said not to eat it rare.

I ate all the steak medium rare when I was pregnant and my baby was absolutely fine

The bacteria can't penetrate through the flesh of beef - it remains on the surface only. This is why some places you go can offer your burger cooked to your liking (because their mince is freshly ground and bacteria free) and some can't (the mince was ground long enough ago that the bacteria has spread over the surface area).
I hope that makes sense - I can't think how better to explain it!

I’ve had medium a couple of times and baby is just fine :)

I didn’t eat it but my midwife said if I do it I should get really high quality meat. I honestly still wouldn’t eat it

I ate medium rare steak my entire pregnancy. It’s not actually that risky. I did a lot of reading on it.

If you are immune to Toxoplasmosis you can eat everything if not I suggest do not eat it 🌻 xx

I ate a medium steak the other day. I’m alive and so is baby haha

I think they also recommend no runny eggs either I eat medium eggs too.

Just because people ate medium done steak (and deli meats and sushi etc) and babies were fine it doesn’t mean that you won’t be infected. You need to look at the statistics and not personal experiences. It is very rare to be infected with toxoplasmosis but it is possible. Different midwives and websites will say different things. It is up to you if you are willing to take the risk (very small risk). My obstetrician told me not to eat in any circumstances. Hope this helps.

Love these ‘I ate it and I was fine’ messages like that’s statistically significant. The risk of getting toxoplasmosis or a parasite from medium cooked beef is extremely low, but if you’re the unlucky one the effects are absolutely devastating to the baby. I loved the book Expecting Better by Emily Oster who is a professor and looked at every available study about all the ‘off menu’ foods, alcohol, caffeine, etc. and presents her findings so you can make your own informed decision. Undercooked (pink) meat is one of very few things she decided not to eat during her pregnancy after all her research and I’m with her, even though I love a good medium rare steak.

I wouldn’t eat it whatsoever !
