Emergency c section 35 weeks

Me and my partner had a Chinese last night and 2 hours later I was being sick with everything plus some… he was also unwell so safe to say it was food poisoning :/ after googling the effects of food poisoning on an unborn baby I decided to ring into triage at 11:30pm. Movements had also reduced by this point but I was unsure if that was because I was focusing on being unwell… I went into triage where they monitored babies heart rate and movements and gradually more and more doctors came in to the room to watch the monitor, after about ten solid minutes of changing position and staring at the monitor they said they don’t want to wait any longer and would it be ok to take me for an emergency c section. Of course I agreed (against birth “plan” but we all would if babies majorly distressed) baby was born at 2:49am 5 weeks early but already weighs 6lbs 4 at 35 weeks. If anyone has any questions about emergency c sections I’d be happy to lend an ear. Unfortunately baby has to be isolated away from me and partner for 48 hours and I haven’t even had the chance to see him in person as of yet…
This will be the longest 2 days but as long as he is happy and healthy I don’t want to chance him catching anything to make him poorly…

If you ever get a bad belly or are unable to keep liquids in yourself please please please don’t wait it out, it could have been a completely different story if I had gone to sleep and ignored it but to find he was in major distress and was not happy as urgently as he was was evident.

Attached one of the only photos I currently have of him that I will stare at until Tuesday.

Welcome to the world little one!

Mama you did so good! Given the isolette I’m guessing he’s in the NICU. Some have cameras the parents can access 24/7. I’m not sure if your hospital does but it doesn’t hurt to ask. Sometimes they are more focused on everything they have to do for the baby and forget details like that.

I know it helped me when I was unable to see my guy for over 24 hours after having him. I’d log in and see him fighting with a nurse trying to give him a binky he didn’t want 😂

Your mum’s instincts didn’t let you down!!! 👏🏼 Congratulations on your beautiful baby. You will be together very soon x
And thanks a lot for sharing your story with us xxx

I had an emergency C-section at 35 weeks. My baby was only 4 pounds though.

My biggest recovery secret was a belly band (TRUST ME !! It helps you do everything) and WALKING ! I was determined to go see my baby in the NICU which was in a whole different wing in the hospital. and once I discharged I was going everyday which also increased my steps.

Pump ! I pumped every two hours which helps my stomach shrink

Stay hydrated!!

The gas pain is the worst part! I had the pain in my shoulder I could cry !!!!! take gas medicine

Keep you incision dry! I used a pad in that area and my belly band keep it in place!

Honestly during my healing time I only wore dresses because I didn’t like tights or pants on my stomach area.

God blew him he is adorable!!! Is there anyway you can just talk to him through his baskinet. Just to hear your voice will help him recover really fast as well. Just a thought

That’s so scary! Glad you got him out safe!
I had gastro at 26 weeks, it lasted about 12 hours and I just waited it out 🙈

Congratulations on a beautiful baby. Thank god you listened to your instincts. Hope you are reunited soon and from a mum that has just spent the last 2 days going between Postnatal ward and NICU to see my little one, I know how scary it is but they receive the best care. Take what time you can to recover. X

Avatar

Congratulations...I had emergency C-section too but that's just because my cervix was up to 8cm after three days of trying. I'm curious though, are you filing a complain against the food vendor? Three lives at risk. Wow. Happy you made it!

Avatar

Wow Congratulations! Xxx

Avatar

Glad you followed your instincts, congrats on a beautiful baby!

Avatar

Oh my goodness! How scary! Glad you are both doing okay and hope you get to see him and cuddle him lots soon. I had emergency c section too and they took my boy straight off as he wasn’t breathing - it’s so scary. Congratulations on his arrival and take it easy and rest up (and deffo report the takeaway to environmental health!) xxx

Hospital Bag?

Hey everyone! When is the right time to pack your hospital bag and what on earth do I need? I see so many different websites and advice on social media that it all gets very overwhelming. Thank you so much for any help.

Heart murmur

Took my 4 month old to the GP yesterday for something unrelated and when checking him over they heard a heart murmur. That didn’t say too much and scheduled another GP appointment for next week. Just wondering if any other mummas babies have had one and what their journeys were/if baby just grew out of it. Thank you x

Things you wish you’d do before C-Section

I’m having my section on Sunday, and trying to write a bunch of ‘self-care’ type things I want to do before hand.
Now I’m not talking the practical things like setting up changing or feeding stations etc. I’m talking things for you like shaving your legs or dying your eyebrows 😂
I know from my last section that I’m not gunna feel my best so I want to do everything I can to feel good! I’ve got a fresh haircut already!
So what are some things you did / wish you did before your c section?

UK Mums: If you had an assigned midwife for your first pregnancy, but not your 2nd. Were you a bit disappointed?

For my first pregnancy I was blessed with having an assigned midwife that I saw every appointment. She was absolutely amazing, so I guess I was spoiled in that sense. This pregnancy, I see a different midwife every appointment and I am a bit disappointed. Before anyone jumps on my back I know it is not guaranteed to have an assigned midwife. It is just hard when each midwife answered my question differently at each appointment and it took the epilepsy clinic (was referred due to having seizures in the last) to give me the actual answer. I also keep getting told that if I have any general questions to contact MAU, but I always thought they were there for urgent matters? Anyways sorry for rambling, I am just a person that feels at ease with consistency 😭

First time leaving the house with newborn

Has anybody managed to step outside since the baby arrived? We were considering starting super local, 10 min by car to somewhere where we can go on a pram walk or cafe. But we were wondering if this is safe, given the baby has no vaccines yet. What’s everyone doing?
