Hi all,
I'm really struggling to get comfortable when breastfeeding and its really becoming a chore rather than something I can do easily as and when (which is really horrible as I want to be able to enjoy such special moments).
Baby girl is just under 2 weeks old and because I had an emergency C-Section I have only managed to feed her in the rugby hold on some cushions propped next to me but I can only do this sitting up hunched over her so my back really starts aching because I'm twisted and uncomfortable. It makes it worse that I'm rather large chested so need to use one hand to support her head and guide her and the other hand to hold my boob so its not sitting incorrectly or suffocating her 😔 luckily she only feeds 10/15mins per boob at a time but I'm also trying to find a way to feed her more upright as she keeps spitting up and I've researched that feeding them lying down doesn't help.
I've tried the reclining position with her lying front facing on top of me (sort of uncomfortable because of my wound but getting better) but she struggles to latch and just ends up sort of face planting me and giving up, I've also tried the cradle hold with her on my lap but she's too low down and I would still have to hunch and she's too heavy to hold one handed.
I'm just stressing as its such an ordeal that I would never be able to feed her out and about at this rate and just really want to know if anyone else has had this similar issue and how they overcame it?
Just to add, my friend did suggest I get a nursing pillow which I've ordered today and should come tomorrow, not sure how much this will help but if anyone has any tips on this as well?
Thank you 😊

Have you tried lying down on your side and feeding her that way? I have large books also so can't do rugby hold as she either suffocates or drowns! Lol
I now feed her mostly reclined on my sofa with her lying across my abdomen

See if your or gp has a lactation consultant. I got one to come out and see me and it really helped!
Same boat with section, but I HATE the rugby ball position, never worked for me.
My lactation lady told me opposite arm to opposite boob, to support.
But I’ve also found sitting in the corner of the couch and having his wee body go at an angle downward, tummy facing inward (as much as possible) helps with digestion too! Then supporting him with my arm. Having a legs up on the couch too.
But as you heal you’ll find what works better for you.
Long story short……. Seek out a lactation consultant 🥰

i was in the exact same situation, lying down together was a solution for me. my shoulder pain get easy and no pressure on my wound.

this is what I was doing in Hospital when I was still numb and before my milk had properly come in but she did manage to latch so maybe I can give this a go again. Thank you

Thanks , I'll have a look into this and play around some more with the positions u suggested

Ah amazing, thanks , will take a look 😊
I tried the koala hold earlier but my boob was too low down 😅😔 maybe could try with the blanket rolled up underneath as I hadn't thought of this but such a great idea.
I'm getting my nursing pillow tomorrow so hopefully that will help also.
Thanks very much for your advice x

Pillow helped but I really needed to use it with an armchair which I don't have. I had a c section and the pillow needed to be right up against my wound. But it might be ok for you

thank you, I do have an armchair which I haven't been able to use yet so maybe will give it a go with the chair if I have trouble

I could only manage the rugby ball hold for a month or two post emergency c section. We propped on the sofa using cushions and pillows to support baby. I'm also big breasted and with the use of pillows and cushions didn't have to hold baby or my boob as they supported. It took a bit of figuring out but we got there. If you find a good position get someone to take a picture so you can remember how you did it! Also you could ask to speak to a bf specialist xx

thank you, my nursing pillow arrived yesterday and I'm already finding it easier 😊
