Help- Postpartum swelling/ itching

I am 5 days pp and my legs are still so swollen. Now I've started breaking into hives where my feet are swollen. And the itching is unbearable. The nurses in the hospital said I could use a benadryl cream but they also said that benadryl can affect milk supply. I'm really struggling right now...has anyone else experienced this? Any advice is super appreciated

Can't help with the hives as I haven't experienced it. The swelling should go down soon, just make sure to stay hydrated and elevate your feet as much as possible. I would lay down with a pillow under my feet to help it

Yeah I’m not sure about the itching either but I had awful swelling from my hips to my feet. It cleared up for me in about a week and a half. Compression socks helped, keeping my feet elevated (which is a joke with all you have to do with a new born), staying hydrated.

My swelling was worse pp than when I was pregnant and went away day 7 or 8 pp. also felt super itchy, never hives but my ankles and bottom of my feet itch, still dealing with that and we’re 17pp now but it isn’t as bad. I have used Benadryl (my legs and hips are also itchy) and my milk supply has been good.

My swelling took almost 2 weeks to go away. Same advice as PP, elevate feet, stay hydrated, avoid salt as much as possible.
For the hives I've used hydrocortisone ointment (not cream) at the advice of my doctor and it helped the itch but didn't heal it. I started using aloe Vera gel and that seems to be healing it now.

I was on benedryl for last week of pregnancy due to pupps . And 2 days POst partum due to hives and and intense itching. My milk supply was just fine . I’m 14 days post partum now and getting to finally feel myself. Swelling is down 95%. Hang in there Momma❤️

I had hives 4 days PP… I was also taking amoxicillin and thought it was from that. However, I’ve seen others have hives PP, so I’m thinking it could have been that. I took Zyrtec and they disappeared within an hour. I just had to keep up with taking it every 24hrs or else they came back.

I had hives that wound up covering much of my body that were horribly itchy, but we're pretty sure it was an allergic reaction to the penicillin and I was given while I was in labor. I went to the doctor and they gave me steroids and they went away. I breastfeed and the steroids were safe.

Thanks ladies! This first week pp has been no joke. Its comforting just to hear I'm not the only one with this awful itching

Yep I had postpartum hives. Use Zyrtec. It didn't completely clear it up for me, but made me way less itchy and it eventually went away within a week.

If you're using any medications for pain postpartum (I had a C-section so I was on several), but once you stop the meds you'll probably stop the hives.

@Jessica I was prescribed norco and I noticed that when I take it about a few hours later is when the hives start raging. I was wondering if it might partially be the pain meds!

shower infront of children

Is it weird to shower infront of your children, or your children see you naked?
At what age should this stop?

I’m just looking at what everyone’s thoughts are as I have a 7 month old and at the moment it’s hard for me to shower without him getting upset.

We contact nap atm, otherwise I'd shower when he sleeps!

It’s easier to bring his play mat into the bathroom whilst I shower so i can at least wash, else i have to wait for my husband to arrive home at 5/6pm.

Keen to see what people's opinions are and how other people do this!

GIRL DADS TAKING DAUGHTER TO BATHROOM IN PUBLIC

If a girl dad needs to take his daughter to the bathroom in public and there are no family bathrooms … I swear video online of a dad saying he uses the women’s bathroom but always knocks and announces ‘girl dad helping my daughter go to the bathroom’ and I love that idea and mens rooms are disgusting but wanted to see everyone’s thoughts

Dummies

What’s everyone’s views on dummies? Are you planning to use them and if so at what age ? I am breastfeeding and my midwife said to avoid them as it might effect feeding but baby is feeding really well now and he has now found his thumb to suck for comfort ! I would prefer him to use a sterilised dummy than his hands that might carry germs but he is only 3.5 weeks not sure if it’s too early ?
