Mam bottles with prep machine

I’m using mam bottles with the tommee tippee prep machine and I’m currently on number 6 for 6oz yet when it finishes it fills it to the 7oz mark on the bottle - does anyone else have this?

Confused as when out and about I use the Nuby rapid cool and don’t no wether to go up to the 6oz or 7oz line on the bottle?!

Want to make sure I’m not under / over giving to much powder / water ratio.

Thanks x

as in your on number 4 on the prep machine and it goes to 5oz on the bottle? I have friends who make up there bottles and go by the bottle oz and don’t have a prep so they would have less water to powder ratio than us?! 😩

Its the volume of the powder causing the water to raise

but surely if you didn’t have the prep machine and made up bottles you would only go up to the 6oz line on the bottle therefore more powder to water ratio. Just wondering what line I should go up to on the bottle when I’m out and about, have been going up to the 7oz line to keep the same as the prep machine.

The water will always rise if you put the powder in after the hot shot. It’s definitely the powder because I don’t put mine in after the hot shot (different prescribed formula that doesn’t need this) and the water is accurate

I think it’s partly a fault with the prep machine. Mine did it too so I trialled making a bottle but didn’t put any powder in and it still did it, so can’t just be because the powder increasing the water volume.

@Chelsea you should add your water first when the formula so the water level will still rise

I have this with mam bottles, I have just assumed it’s to do with powder/shaking after the first hot shot. I imagine if you make with a kettle with no powder fill to 6oz (but I’m not an expert this is just what I’d do) x

I have this as well! I asked on here ages ago! General consensus was that if I’m clicking 5 Oz I’m getting 5 Oz of liquid despite it looking more like 6, it’s likely a combination the formula powder and also the bubbles! If you’re unsure that your machine is giving the right amount of liquid do a test run no formula just the water in a measuring jug and get right down on eye level to see how many Ozs it’s dispensing! i found that it was maybe a mm over 5oz but was the right amount!☺️

Hi guys, you’ll be surprised my health care visitor came around and saw I was using the MAM bottle and she told me the issue she had with it. They come with a default. She was realising that once she made the bottle and put it in a bowl of water to cool down the amount rose. What’s happening is the holes at the bottom of the MAM bottles is taking in water 😭. So now I’m not going crazy at people thinking they don’t know their numbers and just keep making extra Oz!

you can resolve that by taking the lid off the bottle when you stand it in the cool water

Avatar

The prep machine has a conversion chart under the lid where you fill the water. American oz and English are different. Im currently on 6oz and stop the prep and 6.5oz to account for the formula i added in the hotshot.
My partner did loads of ‘tests’ with doing kettle bottles and prep and we noticed adding formula raises the oz amount by roughly half. So thats what we go with 🤷🏻‍♀️

ohhh I have not heard of that I’ll give it a try, thank you x

When you had a baby and you decided to breast feed did you feel that nurses were pushing formula?

My baby is not even 2 days old and she's been nursing super well according to the lactation specialist. She was born by c section so weight loss is expected to be higher than by vaginal birth due to the fluids given. I'm booked into see my doctor for the baby and I and lactation consultant at the doctors yet this nurse won't stop asking if I want to give formula so she can pee more and gain back her weight fast.

You just changed your baby’s diaper, but realise you have to use the bathroom. Do you wash your hands..

Should I make a poll series on hand washing because I’ve been here long enough to know it’s not happening as much as it should lol

Reducing formula feeds

I've just been told by my nursery that they wont give bottles of/and formula from 1 year one, my little boys 1 in 3 weeks.
Looking for advice on how to reduce his formula intake?
Hes loves both food and milk 🫣 I think he will drink cows milk so that's not the issue im more concerned about the fact that hes in a routine with his bottles.

Help

I s it possible to get an emergency pair of glasses? So my little boy was born this morning at 24 weeks + 3 days. I usually wear glasses a but left then at home (and all other bits ) as we assumed we’d be sent home again like we had been many times for bleeding / fluid leakage (obvs that wasn’t the case) and now I’ll potentially be stuck an hour away from home without my glasses for weeks. Which obvs isn’t good how can I get a free emergency pair???

Baby won’t go in pram

Hi my 9 week old hates the pram. She screams the entire time she’s in there. I’m at a loss. She’s never liked it. She will go in the baby carrier happily but is completely against the pram. Any advice

Am I doing things wrong?

My friend and her mum just came round to see me and my 5 month old and every time they tried to hold her she cried with real tears. She does this with everyone at the moment unless its me or my partner or my sister for some reason. My friend who has no kids said you need to leave the room as she spends too much time with you and the mum said I need to spend time away from her regularly which i said I can't as a breastfeed. They asked how we slept to which I said co sleep and she wakes quite a lot in the night and the mum said that her crying with others is my fault, that i need to be tougher and let her cry as she will struggle when shes goes to nursery. Friend also doesnt get why i cant go out in the evenings which i said is because of breastfeeding and cosleeping and to be honest I just don't want to. Doothers agree with them? I dont leave my baby at all, 1 hour max with my husband and I sleep with her and cuddle her when she cries in night. Am I doing it wrong and will she struggle at nursery when shes one? 😭
