Ladies I need to know ASAP.. could you feel the ring of fire with your epidural? I’m 6cm dilated with a working epidural and this nurse just scared the life out of me

Yes, I felt it with my first, but it was very brief. I didn’t have an epidural with my second and didn’t feel it. My sister’s had 3 (2 epidurals, 1 unmedicated) and didn’t feel the ring of fire any time.
It’s VERY intense, but VERY brief.
Tip: Have some damp washcloths in the fridge and have a nurse or support person place them on your forehead during transition - that helped me stay cool. Good luck 🤍

With some I did, with some I didn’t. What I will say is that the times I felt the ring of fire and baby coming out I’d never felt fully numb from my epidural to begin with. For instance, this time around I only felt mildly numb on my left side, felt full sensation on my right, and felt all of my contractions after my water was broken. I anticipated that I’d also feel the ring of fire and I was right, but like Alex said it was VERY brief. Literally only lasted the approx. 30s it took to get his head and body out.

I didn’t feel ANYTHING down there with my epidural! & he wasn’t facing the right direction & I was cut/tore

Uhmmm nope but my daughter was little so that was probably why

I had an epidural and the only thing I feel was the ring of fire. It only lasted about 15 mins and it is right before you meet your baby!! Just the last few pushes! You will be fine- it hurts, but not unbearable!! Good luck!

I didn’t feel a single thing with my epidural & I had a second degree tear plus baby was 8lb8oz it was crazy

Didn't experience that with my epidural. I couldn't feel anything. Towards the end I could kinda feel the contractions which helped me know when to push. I did have a second degree tear though, which luckily I also didn't feel.

I had an epidural and only felt my daughters head rubbing on my pelvic bone as she came down. Didn’t feel the ring of fire at all, but then again, it was all a blur. I was able to feel my doc stitching me up though, which was uncomfortable/stung a little.

The feeling of getting an epidural for me was WILD lol can’t even explain it but it was brief, it felt like a funny bone being fucked with in my back though

My mom said she did but tbh it sounds like it's a very individual thing.

My epidural had worn off well before 10cm snd there was no coming back. It hurt so bad I thought I couldn’t do it. Ignore all instructions to push. Even if you panick and resist the pain like me your body pushes for you so feel free to do nothing ❤️ sorry if it seems like the nurse was scaring you I am sure she meant well

I had pethadine 4 hours before pushing and I didn’t even feel the burn and I had a 8lb 8 baby!

This is helpful as I'm FTM being induced today and want epidural too!

I didn't feel anything with my epidural. No ring of fire at all. It was awesome. You're going to do great you got this :)

So what is the ring of fire? I’ve done two unmedicated births and am curious if I’ve experienced it.

Ah. Gotcha. Umm…not with my second. He basically flew out like a missile. With my first. Yup. I get that. But I did survive! And your body has crazy hormones etc to help with the pain. I’ve heard that your body produces pain killers 10x stronger than morphine. True? Not sure, but after you have the baby it doesn’t take long before your memories of the pain start to fade. At least that’s been my experience.
