Baby bridging and pushing along on back to move along floor

My baby has just turned six months and for the past few months he's been what I can only describe as bridging on his back whilst lying on his back and then pushing off with his legs to move about the floor. He can move from one side of the room to the other! Does anyone else's baby do this? He's rolled over a few times either way but has no interest in doing it again even with lots of encouragement and us showing him how to do it and he can't sit up unaided yet. He's on the small side so wonder if he just finds this an easier way to get around! Just wondering if it's something I should mention to the HV as he's not really rolling / sitting up. Keep going down a black hole on Google...

Yeah ours did that for a while before he started rolling more actively. He would also lift his legs up and tilt them to the side. I think he was just practicing and trying to work out how to roll, he hasn’t done it since he’s been able to roll over properly. Ours is 7 months in about a week x

My little girl does this on her changing mat, she only does it once or twice each time, she’s never moved as far as your little boy but I don’t feel concerned about it. She isn’t rolling yet either and I think she’s just learning how her body works. If you’re concerned though there’s no harm mentioning it to your HV, it will out your mind at rest x

Thanks both! Reassuring to know he isn't the only one ☺️ and he's just exploring different movements. I'll mention it next time he gets weighed and will learn not to Google things!

My little girl did this all the time for a few weeks. She would also do hip bridge then try twist herself round as if trying to roll. Then she stopped once she was able to roll both ways and done it since! She’s only learned to roll both ways very recently but hasn’t perfected it yet. Sounds like he’s going to learn something new soon 🙂

Our LG does this. She can roll too and try’s to crawl on her front but just doesn’t have the arm strength yet. When she’s sitting on our laps she will straighten up as if she wants down and if you put her feet on the ground she can stand (with support) and she’s giggly when we do this. She can’t sit unsupported yet though They are growing and changing so quickly!
