Possums Clinic, Brisbane

I’ve heard some fantastic things about Possums, and just wondered if anyone here has used them and would be happy to share some feedback? I like the sound of their holistic approach. I’m having some sleep challenges with my LO so considering a consult.

I used the possums approach and my little happy baby turned into a gremlin , haha he was so miserable and just not himself, but I think their approach is more for low sleep needs babies and my boy clearly wasn’t low sleep needs.

I’ve not been but my GP is one of the practitioners there and she is beyond amazing so I would imagine the others would be too!

Dr Kathryn Franks at Neighbourhood Medical if you want. One on one appointment! She’ll be able to help you for suuuure!

can not agree more!! Dr Kathryn is absolutely lovely!

Geez, that doesn’t sound good do you mind if I ask what about their approach didn’t work for you? This is the first time I’ve heard anything negative about them

Thanks and
I’m not in Brisbane (Sunshine Coast) but appreciate the recommendation. What do you like about her, out of interest? 😊

We do possums with our baby and it's been a game changer! Really helped my mindset around sleep and my days in general. We all get a bit more sleep at night too!

Avatar

thank you. What is it about the approach that works so well for you? I’m finding it hard to understand what “possums” actually is… is it no schedules? Watching cues? More stimulation…? Or something else?

it's trying to align your sleep with your baby's sleep as much as possible. To do this you set an early wake up time and be really consistent with it (we get up at 6) to set their circadian clock. Then you go about your day without focussing on naps (it can take baby time to get used to napping on the go if they are used to napping in dark, quiet rooms but my baby naps everywhere now). Also pushing their bedtime back which gives them time to build up their sleep pressure

Not the best summary but feel free to msg me

Thank you! Thanks really helpful we have a pretty early start already, around 6-6.30am, and our bedtime is usually between 7-7.30pm… how late do you push bedtime? And do you still pay attention to wake windows?

I’ll see if I can message you but my paid subscription just ran out.

our baby goes to bed between 8-10 depending on when his last nap was. Another thing with possums is using naps to take the edge off rising sleep pressure but not trying to prolongue them because long day time naps ultimately takes away from night time sleep. So we occasionally wake him up from naps if we think they've been going for too long, and later in the day (after 5/6) we only let him nap for like 10 mins max

Avatar

Thanks that’s great to hear . My son occasionally has longish naps during the day (1-2 hours) but I look at overall day sleep and try to keep it from going over 3 hrs (atm). Does that sound in-line with possums? Anything after 5pm would end up being bedtime for us. How do you find the later bedtime?

Visitors after C-Section

I’ve firmly expressed I don’t want visitors when we’re in the hospital and likely not for a while when home. I want us to be able to adjust but also for me to start to recover, I’ve got a condition that causes seizures and poor wound healing so anticipating it could potentially be difficult at first.

I don’t want to be unfair to people, but I know it’s going to be detrimental mentally for me to have people. I’ve been pushed on specifics on how long and said “we’ll say 2 weeks for now including the hospital and then let people know.” I can tell that my mom is not happy in the slightest and there’s been a few comments.

What do others recommend? Is it better to just grit your teeth and get people over to keep the peace? Is it wrong to want the space?

No bleeding after c section

9 days post op and I’ve not been bleeding at all.. I only bled some clots for the first 24-48 hours but nothing after that. Midwives are advising this is normal, has anyone else experienced no bleeding after c section?

How many people can stay in hospital

Hi all, do you know how many people can stay with you in the hospital after your delivery in the recovery room? Mine is a planned C-section at Homerton. Do they allow more than 1?

31 weeks movement

My baby moves all the time but is anyone else finding that the movement are more rolls and pushes than actual jabs! I only get jabs and kicks now if I am laying down but during the day I mainly get rolls and pushing. I haven’t been worried that his movements have reduced just different kinds of moving.

Period like pains

I’m 35 weeks tomorrow and having dull period like cramps in my lower belly and slightly in my lower back. Has anyone else had this? I’m wondering if it’s just general pregnancy stretching muscles etc or the start of something.. 😬

Measuring in the 18th Percentile

Just got back from my 28w+6 growth scan 🤍
Baby girl is measuring in the 18th percentile. I can’t help but feel a bit worried. I’ve been noticing my bump seems smaller compared to others at this stage, and now it kind of makes sense.
anyone else having a baby measuring on the smaller side? What are you going to do with your diet?
Trying to stay calm but would really appreciate hearing your experiences 💕
