My bilingual interracial parents

I am so worried of my daughter will not learn Spanish
My husband only talks English
She is three her first language is English cause both me and my husband speaks English around her
It’s just me speaking mostly Spanish around her
I am starting a plan to speak Spanish only when I am around her
He’s gone for 8 hours a day so when he’s gone I am planning to speak only Spanish around her for that time
I hope she doesn’t babble too much or get confused parents how do you do it? How do you Teach another language?

She won’t get confused! Babies/toddlers/young kids are super adaptable! Especially since they haven’t mastered primary communication solely with speech. I have the same worry since I am the only one that speaks Spanish to our baby and all my family that speak Spanish are far away. But it’s the only way my son would be able to communicate to my parents. But our son responds to both my husband and I in both languages. Just stick with it! You got this momma!!!

I think it’ll be fine. Both my husband and I speak English to our son but every so often my husband will speak Spanish. And when we are with my in laws they will always speak Spanish to him. It’ll probably be a little difficult for us since my husband isn’t home all day but I hope to learn too to teach him

I speak Portuguese wirh my son, husband speaks english. But I always try to meet my cousin or my godmother and we all speak Portuguese. Since I'm with my son 24/7 he understands more Portuguese. Toddler/kids learn fast, as long as you practice with them daily, having extra gatherings speaking spanish, she will speak both.

your response comforts me thank you
I just hope it’s not too late she is three and a half now
I am so worried. I am in a similar situation
My family is far and my parents only speak Spanish
I want her to communicate with her grandparents I feel like I will fail if I never taught her Spanish.

girl I hope it works out for your family too ❤️❤️
It’s awesome if he learned two because of the Benefits of being bilingual.

I really hope so! My grandma is Korean but she was unfortunately never able to teach my dad Korean and so he was never able to teach us. So I hope our kids can at least learn one other language!

how many gatherings a week do you have? My parents and I get together once a week

We're very close, maybe twice with my cousin and once with my godmother. Be we hang out for 3h to 8h. We love eating and chatting 😆

You can enrol him in Spanish school later on as it’s never to late for them to learn. Other than that, I speak only Spanish to my LO when we are alone as daddy only speaks English. Any screen time i allow her is in Spanish, and I have a whole load of Spanish books for her bed time routine, I also find nursery rhymes to sing to her in Spanish, also I have a few mum friends that speak Spanish and we only speak Spanish when we meet up so they can hear it in conversation.

Hope that helps it’s nothing mind blowing but trying to incorporate it into as much of her routine as possible give me hope. 😅

When I let him watch YouTube, I'll put songs in Portuguese or Alphabet in Portuguese.

She will not get confused. My son is 23months old and most of the words he knows in Portuguese he also knows in English. But for me is easier, I guess, cause both my husband and I are Brazilians, so only Portuguese at home, and English when we’re in the play groups and usually when my daughter talks to him. But she’s gonna get it. Is a great idea to talk to her only in Spanish when you can, and if she watches tv also putting tv shoes in Spanish.

I’m on the same boat. Although my daughter is only 10months old. She is home with me all day so I only speak Spanish and she understands. When her dad and brothers come home they speak to her in English. But, for the most part the things we do throughout the day is Spanish based. I’ve bought toys that are Spanish animated and if I put on YouTube it is Spanish videos. Like bilingual for littles. I think it’s awesome that you want to teach her. It’s hard sometimes to stick to it because I also feel more comfortable speaking English but I want her to learn so I try my best! You got this mama!

Sleeping position?

Does anybody else’s newborn sleep in an odd position? Or can anyone tell me why my baby does this? It looks super uncomfortable and no matter how many times I readjust him he goes back into this same position. He favourites the left side as well, he never does this on the other side.

Tips on how to get breastfed baby to take a bottle? My LB currently only feeds using a shield (we use MAM) and he would always take a bottle (MAM) previously but I got lazy and stopped using it for a while and now he’s refusing😅 I’m going out in a couple of weeks so really need him to take to it again😅 any tips greatly appreciated x

First time mom issues

Ever since I became a mother, I get criticized for almost everything.

I breastfeed, and I constantly hear that “breast milk doesn’t fill the baby up” and that I should give formula.

I’m currently unable to work, and I hear things like, “This is America people don’t stay home with kids, put the baby in daycare,” even though I’ve applied and haven’t been approved yet.

My child feels safe enough to be herself when I’m around, and somehow that turns into, “The baby is too clingy you need to put her in daycare.”

When my baby cries, I drop everything to comfort her, and I’m told I shouldn’t do that because I’m “making her clingy.”

I didn’t grow up dreaming of becoming a mother, but God chose me to be this child’s mother, and I intend to give her all my love, care, time, and dedication. It is my mission.

I pray to God every day.

The life I imagined didn’t happen, but I am grateful for what I’ve learned in these past four months.

I’ve learned to speak softly. I’ve learned patience.

What more could I ask for?

Every day, I just thank God for sending me my little honey bun. 💛

kissing a newborn

my mum and dad keep kissing my 4 week old baby. i let it slide when its his head or his cheek which to be honest i shouldn’t but ive caught my mum now kissing his lips , i told her the other day dont kiss his lips .. she then said im kissing his nose which i know is bull since i saw it in front of my eyes , today she then gave him a wet kiss on his lips, im beyond pissed off and she isn’t taking me seriously . what makes it worse is she is a health visitor who should know about newborns and how kissing on the face especially the lips is a big no no! oh and she was complaining not even an hour ago about how she had a runny nose.
