Switching OBs..

I started this pregnancy knowing that the last time I had my Vitamin D levels checked, they were really low... like 9, and they are supposed to be greater than 30.. and doing some research, I discovered that low Vitamin D is associated with miscarriage.. So, I asked my OB at my 10w2d appointment to please check my levels just so I can know where I'm at. They claimed they knew nothing about low Vitamin D levels being associated with miscarriage and kind of laughed it off as if I'm just being first time mom paranoid, but told me they would have them checked at my next appointment.. which was scheduled for FOUR WEEKS away, during crucial stages of baby's development. I reluctantly agreed because there was no way I'd be able to get an appointment with a new OB before then.. I had my blood drawn for the Vitamin D levels on May 11th.. and I just got the results back today, which seems crazy because it should not take that long! Here were my results, and they came with a message from my provider that my results were normal and to continue taking a prenatal with Vitamin D... My Vitamin D2 level is 3.2!!! Anything under 12 is severely deficient! Not to mention that they have known I have gestational diabetes since that May 11th appointment, but they are referring me out to another doctor to prescribe me insulin, almost a full month after noticing the problem. I'm tired of shitty healthcare. 😮‍💨

@Shannon I ordered liquid D2, so it'll be here soon! The problem was I was told my Vitamin D levels a year before I got pregnant, and they never checked them again once I started treatment.. and I was taking D.velop, which is a Vitamin D supplement that works incredibly fast at raising your levels (and then I was taking Weekly-D, which is a 50,000iu supplement that you take every week), so within a year, my levels could definitely have been normal.. problem is, neither of those supplements have Vitamin D2, and that is now my problem area.

Which prenatals do you take? I was extremely vitamin D defficient before my pregnancy but my most recent prenatal bw indicated my levels are now normal. I atttributed to the prenatals

I doubt you would take too much. Vitamin D levels are really hard to bring up and I bet what’s in the prenatal isn’t nearly enough. If they didn’t prescribe you a second one and you can afford I’d get one otc. Otherwise call and have them prescribe you one asap.

@Joselyn I didn't want to take too much if my levels were regulated already, which is why I asked them to check.. but I do have Vitamin D in my prenatal, so I've been taking that every day. I think it's D3, though, not D2. I have my intake appointment with a new OB on June 14th, so fingers crossed they actually care about me and my unborn son.

I was also told I had low vitamin D but never got rechecked but have been meaning to ask. Have you been taking a supplement? Im sorry It’s terrible to feel like you’re the only one taking your babies health seriously. Hope you find a better OB!
