Feeling awful for feeling awful

I had what was supposed to be my six week scan yesterday and was told it was most likely to be too early as they couldn’t see anything other than the sac (according the the math/apps I was six weeks exactly yesterday) so now I have to wait another two weeks. They also weren’t able to tell me how many weeks I am.

Today I feel absolutely awful. I’m moody/irritable. My nausea has ramped up. I am hungry all the time. I have a terrible headache. And my breasts hurt. Usually I’d be able to dismiss these… I mean they all obviously aren’t great but I understand but today I feel like I’m not entitled to any of these symptoms based on yesterday’s scan. I feel like a giant fraud. So I’m punishing myself by pushing through symptoms when I shouldn’t. I can see myself do it, this punishing thing, but can’t seem to stop.
Has anyone else had a six week scan that turned out to be too early?

My doctor wouldn’t do a scan before 8 weeks because she didn’t want this to happen, and my friend had her scan at 6 weeks and did have this happen. It made me glad that my doctor forced an extra 2 weeks of patience out of me. Nobody knows the outcome, just try to breathe and take it easy, as difficult as that may be.

I experienced this with my first pregnancy. Had an early scan at 6 weeks and they could only see the sac, went back 2 weeks later and could finally see my tiny baby with her lovely heartbeat! She’s now a healthy 17 month old! Turned out I was 2/3 days behind what I thought! I know easier said than done, but please try not to worry yourself or stress! It won’t do you any good! Xx

Even with the apps on knowing when your last period was, you might of ovulated late into your cycle so u might only be 5 weeks which if that is the case, you wouldn't really see anything yet

But this is exactly what's expected? 6 weeks is too early for anyone, they haven't even formed a heart at that stage, it's just a couple of cells that emit a small signal. So yes your baby will barely be visible on a scan but your body is producing mega amounts of hormones in the first trimester and you can feel nauseous and awful until the placenta is formed and takes over hormone production. Until then your entire body is subjected to all of the hormones. Your feelings are completely valid. Your scan went completely as expected for the gestation, and it's completely normal to feel horrendous

Could they not do an internal scan? Hope u feel better bless you

Exactly what said.

6 weeks is generally too early to see anything on a scan (internal or external).
The earliest you should have a scan is 6w4d. At this point a heartbeat can be visible.
Though a lot of private scan centres won’t scan until 8 weeks to avoid exactly this situation.

thanks so much, in hindsight I should have waited but my impatience got the better of me. Will try my best to just take it easy and breathe through it.

thank you, I think you have a point about my expectations. I went with my partner who had no expectations and he was happy. It’s hard to know when you’ve never went through something what to expect and how not to drive yourself over the edge with worry. But I’ll try my best.

they did and it was the same. Thank you

All fingers crossed it was just too early which I bet it was too xx

Avatar

good point, they have a policy that the second scan is complimentary which maybe means that this happens more often than I thought. Thanks

thanks, it’s hard to think that 2/3 days could make such a difference but I’ll bear in mind. Glad to hear it all worked out for you and your little girl!

I did a scan at 6w1 and I was able to see the heartbeat. I think it depends on the fact that you probably ovulated later than you thought. If you want you can book for a private scan in a week or so, and hopefully then you’ll be able to see more and calm your heat until the other ultrasound (: wish you all the best xx

Avatar

YES! We booked a private scan thinking we were 6+3 but because my cycles are longer than 28 days (35+) I was actually likely less than 5 when I had the scan so I didn’t see a heartbeat.
We called my GP who booked me with the EPAU and a few days later we saw the heartbeat.
I also have the same symptoms as you. Please stop punishing yourself

Yh I went for an early scan thinking I was 9 weeks (according to my last period) but was actually just over 6. You could see a heartbeat but that was through an internal scan. I was kinda gutted as wanted to tell people but make it more of a secret and now I'm just over 9 weeks 😀. I knew early and it's my first pregnancy so think it's excitement xx

This happened to me, had a scan too early and all they saw was the sac. They did HCG bloods 48 hours apart and told me that they were increasing but not enough so it was likely a non viable pregnancy.
Had a scan to check after a week (longest week ever!!) and they saw the heartbeat. The same thing happened to my sister. I was just under 6 weeks. Many health care professionals won’t scan any earlier than 7-8 weeks because of this.
Don’t push yourself, take it easy as the likelihood is it was too early. You still have all the symptoms so carry on as before.

Induction?

Anyone been induced before? Was it more painful? Better than thought? Worse than thought? Worth it? Thoughts?

Induction or c section?

As a last resort, would you rather be induced or have a planned c section?

Really not liking the thought of being induced from people’s experiences I’ve read!

Almost 37 weeks + told to do another growth scan

I just had my second to last doctor’s appointment this morning, and my OB told me she wants me to do another growth scan because my belly is measuring small. She says it’s probably just because I’m a smaller woman, but they like to be safe. It’s hard to hear though, since I just did one a couple months ago.

I did this with my firstborn around this time of pregnancy, so I do think I just carry smaller (even though I don’t feel like I look “small” at all). My first baby was 6lbs 15oz when she was born at 41 weeks + 2 days. I’m having this baby at 39 weeks on April 7. I hope she’s still at least 6lbs.

Anyone have any stories similar to this?
