Or at least the doctor didn't tell me, is that taking the pill is likely to impact your milk supply. Mine has significantly dropped over the last few weeks coinciding with when I began taking the pill. I was pumping more than enough to feed my little one, plus was freezing an extra bag each day. My supply has gradually reduced over last 3 weeks so much so that I'm now having to feed 50/50 with formula. I'm having to now pump every 2 hours round the clock to get my supply up, taking fenugreek and eating all the oats I can manage 🙄 so annoyed they didn't warn me this would be a side effect of the pill as never would have taken it. Just wanted to share incase anyone else is unaware!

ANY medication always check with the BFN. No food will increase your supply, the only way to increase is removal of milk so continue to pump frequently and add in some power pumps, compressions, heat, and massaging whilst pumping will help too x

I’ve actually seen that fenugreek has dried up peoples supply so I’d be very careful. As Jay has said, there is no evidence any food or drinks will increase your supply. Suggested to be anecdotal.
I’m sure I read both pills have been cleared for BFing, what makes you think your supply dropped?

@Tanya I've gone from producing enough milk to feed my baby and then some, to having to supplement 50% with formula. My baby isn't eating any more than she used to. I also keep a log of how much i pump and have done from the very start so it's clear to see the reduction in supply.
I've took fenugreek and ate oats from the start, so have no way of knowing if they are having any impact or not...I don't mind the excuse to eat flapjacks though!
The pill is considered safe when breastfeeding but reading online it clearly states a side effect of decreasing milk supply, which I think the prescribing doctor should have mentioned in my 6 week pp check up when she gave me the prescription

100% Your doctor should have mentioned this to you as the pills with higher dosage of estrogen are more likely to decrease your milk supply x

yeah the doc should have put OP on a different kind of pill. I’m on the mini pill since I am nursing. It’s only progestin so it doesn’t affect milk supply like the normal pill

If your doctor knew you were breastfeeding I’d make a complaint

It sucks that your doctor didn't tell you, but hopefully this is a lesson for you to do your own research next time

oh I haven't heard of that, I'll give it a try, thank you!

I’ve breastfed for 7 months on the pill and I had no idea
