Pointing, waving and speech

Hey, I wouldn't worry about it at this age, does he understand what you are saying to him. Speech starts around 18 months onwards. Some children don't speak till 2 or after. Just talking to him everyday, keeping it simple with words. Not saying to many words in a sentence. Hope this makes sense and help. Look at BBC tiny happy people. It's all activities to help with promoting speech.

The HV told me that they wouldn't really start to assess this until between 2 and 2.5 years

yeah so he does show me what he wants to play with etc, he brings it to me, he does play independently but sometimes hand leads, thank you for the tips I will look at that website :)

the thing is you get mixed information they say they should be doing this by this age etc, but then like you say don’t access till they are 2/2.5, but then you do want to intervene if he isn’t quite hitting target for things 🤷‍♀️

So my son has just turned 17 months and exactly the same. I pushed and got him seen by speech and language therapy and to be honest it was a lot of upset for them just to say they’ll see him again when he’s 2 because I was already doing everything they recommended 😊 so my advice would be just to enjoy him and get him seen when he’s 2-2.5 x

my little one is 22 months, he still hand leads as well. His speech has only really just started. He does have a slight loss of hearing in one ear. Health visiting team and even speech and language won't look at speech till 2-2.5. Depending on where you are also depends on waiting list. Where I am there is a 18 month waiting list till you are seen.

absolutely! Its hard to work out what is right haha. I personally would continue to try to teach the words and things, my baby just randomly started stringing words together all of a sudden and saying loads more one day. As long as baby is being spoken to at this age i wouldnt worry until closer to 2 🙃
