My little girl is almost 14 months and has recently started pulling her own hair to the point where she actually pulls small clumps of hair out, she does it mostly when she's sitting with me watching some tv (an hour a day) I make sure she's got something to fiddle with but she still will go straight to her hair, how do I deal with it, do I ignore it or keep directing her to something else

I heard this is a self soothing thing common in young girls try pull it back so it not in her face. My daughter used to do this recently turned 2 and hardly ever does it. Maybe give her a snack at this time so her hands are busy but she has a reward for keeping her hands busy by getting a good snack in

It can be self soothing but also could be a sign of autism maybe speak to ur GP or health visitor

@Lauren I've already talked to my GP about trying to get her tested for autism, she has a lot of behaviours similar to children with autism but they've told me there isn't anything they can do atm, she's too little, he told me to come back if she's still showing all these signs and more I'm around a year, I'm slowly making a list of behaviours I'm seeing so I'll add the hair pulling onto it

Could be a form of self soothing or also anxiety. I would get her a fidget don’t ignore redirect

Stop watching tv and see if she does it other times. Maybe try giving her something else to pull or touch.
