Hi gals, found out I have Group B strep today. I know it’s not the end of the world but my midwife isn’t very good & I don’t know much about it.
Anyone got any information such as whether I can still have a water birth or not & if this means I’m high risk??

I was told if I was found to have it then I’d have to be on a drip of antibiotics during labour which I am guessing would mean no to water birth but I honestly have no idea. I’ll post pics from the info booklet I was given x

I can send you the rest of the pages if you’d like to see them☺️ x

I’ve got group B strep and have been advised a water birth will still be possible. I think the main restrictions are that we’ll need to go into hospital as soon as your waters break or you’ll have to notify the hospital as soon as you think you’re in labour so the antibiotics can be administered for 4 hrs before birth (so it may mean not being able to labour at home for as long) xx

Oh and the baby has to be monitors for 12 hours after birth too

can I ask how you found out? Is it something they test regularly? A doctor friend of mine (from another country) yesterday said they should check, and I didn’t know anything about it so I assumed they don’t do it in this country.

I found out after a urine sample x

I had group b strep at 30 weeks. 32 weeks no streb b. It can come and go. I took a course of antibiotics x

I have it too. You can 100% still have a water birth. Main difference for us is you have to call straight away when you go into labour. You have to have an iv drip of antibiotics at least 4 hours before baby arrives. If they get you in early it is antibiotics every 4 hours. I got sent a lot of stuff from my hospital. Feel free to message me if you want more info.
Have you received a sticker to attach to your maternity notes?

if you want to message me I can pass on pictures of the info I have been sent. You can bypass your midwife and speak to the delivery suite at your hospital. They will send you out a sticker for your notes and they also have leaflets. All my info came from our hospital. My midwife did go over it with me. I am fortunate to have a lovely midwife but have found out that she is getting moved soon so for my last 6 weeks I will have someone completely different
