Early scans

I have booked to have a private scan at 7 weeks. Any tips on how to ensure my bladder is full without feeling like I'm going to wet myself.
Any stories about early scans? I'm full of anxiety just wanting to know that my little nugget is all okay in therešŸ˜…

If you’re under 10 weeks is more likely you’ll have an internal scan, where your bladder will need to be empty :)

I had one at around 6 weeks and mine was internal with empty bladder. They were very lovely, explained what is what (as you don’t really recognise anything baby shaped at that stage haha), we saw the flicker of a heartbeat, it was honestly so lovely and reassuring. Hope you have a positive experience too!

Not sure when is yours but mine is this Saturday. I should be 7+3 on the day of my scan. Mine is not an internal scan. I’ll update you on the scan if yours is later than SaturdayšŸ™ˆ

It'll be an internal scan for early pregnancy šŸ’•šŸ’•

They've said it would be an external scan and have asked me to arrive with a full bladderšŸ™ˆ

My 7 week scan I thought was going to be internal so I didn’t drink any water but they said they’d try a normal ultra sound and could still see clearly! So I wouldn’t worry too much :)

Mine was external for my early scan.
Honestly I don’t have many tips, you’re probably going to feel quite uncomfortable šŸ˜‚.
I kept getting told off for having a too full bladder though, so learnt that if I felt like I was actually going to burst I’d try and just have a tiny wee. I think the trick is to just need a wee, but not so much that you’re in pain šŸ˜‚

@Carine thank you, how exciting! Mine is not until the 14th so that would be amazing thank you🄰

I’ll keep you updated ā˜ŗļø

I had a scan last week at 7w1d it was an abdominal scan i drank a bottle of water on the way to the scan bladder was full could see the baby no problem and a strong heartbeat xx

Went to the toilet for a pee straight after lol x

Mine was external- private
Try and drink as much as you can. They say a lot I drank 1/3 of my water bottle they managed to get a good scan

Avatar

I had an internal scan at week 10 with an empty bladder.

Avatar

I had external ultra sound at 7 weeks and just drank a lot about 5-10 mins before my scan.

When you all say internal scan - what do they (excuse the graphicness) put up there? Is it uncomfortable? I’ve booked myself in for my 8week scan but I’m a little worried now. If it’s like a smear then that’s fine but I guess it’s the unknown šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

I drank a pint of water then drove to the hospital for mine. By the time I was there though I was bursting, and they proper press on your belly. They couldn’t see very clearly on the external so let me go for a pee and then did an internal one. Internal is just like a dildo with a camera in it

Avatar

if you have booked a private scan, the scan will be abdominal and you need to drink around 2 pints an hour before hand

If it’s nhs, most likely will be internal and yeah it’s just like a probe it doesn’t hurt, can just be a little uncomfortable as they move it around .. it looks quite big but not all of it goes in

thanks

Loads of people told me you drink a litre an hour before with no wees, I was desperate and in pain by the time I got scanned. The technicians told me that was too much water and you only need to drink 0.5L an hour before xx

Avatar

way less uncomfortable than a smear, so if a smear is fine, this will be too, especially worth while seeing that little flickering heart beat ā¤ļø

My private scan was external to start, they didn’t get a good enough picture so wanted to do an internal scan. I asked if I could go for a wee first as I was bursting and didn’t trust myself.

Pregnant with baby 2

Hi everyone! I gave birth via emergency c section 9 months ago as my baby boy was measuring big, he pooped inside so there was risk of him inhaling it and I wasn’t progressing past 3cm to have a natural birth and now I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby. I’m having a consultation on Tuesday to talk about birth options and to have any questions answered but I don’t know what to ask. I feel like it would be safer having a c section again but at the same time I don’t want a c section. Does anyone have any question ideas I could ask or any advice/stories of similar situations. Tia

I have a feeling like I might get attacked from this but I’m going to say it anyways. incognito 🄸 GLP1s being mainstream for regular people who are NOT diabetic or morbidly obese is bad for so many reasons šŸ’‰šŸ’‰šŸ’‰

Side affects, long term dependency, supply shortages and costs, regaining the weight back as soon as you get off them.. all that ASIDE how do people not see just from a zoomed out perspective how crazy it is. I can’t imagine being someone facing food insecurity in an underdeveloped country and watching westerners give themselves daily jabs so they can lose weight while still eating a calorie surplus/ crappy foods. It’s giving hunger games when district 12 Katniss finds out at the party at the capital that people eat and then take a pill to make themselves sick so they can 🤮 and eat some more. These ads running ozempic everywhere are disgusting, and then getting amazing athletes like Serena Williams to push them talking bout ā€œi’ve never been healthierā€ girl you were an OLYMPIC athlete wym??

Planned c section

Has anyone had a planned c section and been home the same day?

Getting pregnant after c section

When did you get pregnant again after a c section? Our plan was always to have 2 under 2 but that is now out the window because I had an emergency section. I know they say 18 months and we will be sticking to it (as much as I don’t want to) but I’m curious how quickly you got pregnant after your section?

Movements

I’m 28 weeks tomorrow. Yesterday I had loads and loads of movements but today I have only felt small flutters and a couple of kicks throughout the day. I get so confused as some people say they don’t have a pattern but others say they do. We have a Doppler so used it this evening and could hear the heartbeat and then moving but does anyone else get quieter days of movement than others? I am seeing my midwife tomorrow so will check but just find myself getting anxious about it and don’t know when to get checked. I know they encourage it but last time as soon as I got to triage baby started moving loads!

Tips for babies with wind issues

My 5 week old has always had issues bringing up all his wind. When he’s laying on his back, he’s always grunting in pain to the point he cries and wakes himself up.

Spoke with a qualified physio who’s also qualified in baby massage and she said try concentric circles on baby. Small circles with a little pressure on their right (your left when facing you) from the bottom of their tummy up to their ribs and then going to the other side and doing the same. Then do the usual leg exercises with them (bicycle kicks, air squats, rotating them side to side etc)

I’ve also found this really helps doing it on my LBs back. I either use my thumb or two fingers when he’s up against me. I do both sides from bottom to top in small circles. He moves around and makes the grunting noises when I first do it but burps come out and after about 4/5 times he stops moving around or grunting at all and it’s meant he’s actually slept on his back and not had to cosleep!
