One Born Every Minute - Terrifying or Terrific?

Hey everyone! I’ve been spending more time in front of the television in light of the first trimester fatigue. I stumbled upon the show ‘One Born Every Minute’ and decided to watch the first episode. If all goes to plan, I will be giving birth in April 2024 to my first child. I thought it would be good to see and watch how the birthing goes. You can never be too prepared, right?

Mostly, I am left with a profound amazement at the strength and bravery of all those new mothers/fathers on the show, as well as, the heroic patience of the midwives and consultants. My morbid curiosity wants me to keep watching but I am also left terrified with the prospect of giving birth now. Has anyone else seen the show? Is it an accurate representation of what it will be like? Is there something to learn from ‘one born every minute’? Should I continue watching?

Heyyy my due date for my first is in April aswell. I was watching a bit of the show and its so informative but also so diverse and it does make me a lot less scared actually.

I think it can be really informative but also a bit dramatic. When I was on the labour ward with my first I barely heard anyone giving birth, on that show the screams are ridiculous 🤣

It's not necessarily a true representation because it's a TV show so any drama will be shown. I personally love the show but avoided watching whilst pregnant because it's too easy to become scared or worried about your own birth when you see a lot of the bad stuff in other people's. When you are worried/scared naturally your body will labour less effectively so I just chose not to watch and not fill my subconscious brain with it! X

I decided to not watch it to not freak out. First birth experience was good. Was following the same principle, not watching how thick the epidural needle is etc. 😅

Since finding out I’m pregnant I have binge watched one born every minute and I’ve already finished 😂 I watched 1 most nights, I loved it’s showed real situations and all very informative! Scary but it’s all real life xx

For the record it's nothing like one born every minute lol they seem to be in a birthing suite for the whole of their labours, they have gas and air, they get baths and seem to be able to do their latent labour in private. When in reality you're either at home or on a ward until you're literally about to pop. So no gas and air, no bath and no privacy.

One born every minute is a terrible representation of having a baby. I watched it during my first pregnancy, it was 0 help at all! After a huge birth trauma with my son, I spent the next 2 years researching about how a woman is actually capable of birthing and medicalised the industry is. I’m in no way against medical intervention but it’s pushed so much now and one born every minute seems to indorce it. I only saw 1 or 2 episodes where a woman really birthed in the way she’s capable. I’d recommend spending time researching and watching shows related to birthing naturally rather than a dramatic medicalised show. Also can’t recommend researching breastfeeding enough, because I don’t know one woman (myself included) who didn’t have a shock when it came to it. A lot thicker than it seems but if you know how you’ll do ace. Unfortunately the support system for infant feeding is rarely great so best to be ready yourself!

I watched it before my first was born and I was convinced that everyone screams 😂 when I went into labour I even apologised in case I screamed but in actual fact I didn’t at all. You need all the energy you can get and screaming wastes so much of it. I think one born every minute is a tad dramatic. Some women do scream but I sometimes think that’s because they feel like you have to x

I tried watching it but a lot of the dads annoy me so had to turn it off

I have 3 and also pregnant around 7w. My last child I had with my boyfriend that used to watch with me Born very min and he said what happened in our baby birth was completely different from what we used to watch. It’s very informative but it’s quite to much. I had 3 already and I never screamed like the girls I see in the clip. Every one is different and you will be great. 😘😘

Day out after c section

Hey,
I had an emergency c section 1 week ago I obviously don't want a day out right now but I have things booked for the Easter holidays so in 2 weeks. I was just wondering if I will be overdoing it if I have a day out then or will I be ok? I would still take it as easy as I could. When did everyone feel good enough to go out?

Period like cramps

Hi
I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant and I keep getting period like cramps I thought these were Brixton hicks but I’ve heard they only last 30 seconds ish as this can go on for a good time frame then go away and come back, they aren’t bad enough where I can’t do basic things they just feel like I’m about to get my period I’m jus wondering how normal this is? Baby is still very actively kicking xx

C section or natural?

I am a control freak and thinking c section is the least stressful route for me and baby… less complications during labour etc. whilst acknowledging recovering can be hard.
If it could be guaranteed no tearing or complications then I would opt for natural and kind of want to experience the feeling.
Then again could plan and go either way 😂 arghh!
Anyone else in this predicament?

Invited to a chuckie cheese party but I don't have money and don't want to tell my daughter that's why we can't go. Does anyone know how their parties work?

I'm not sure how chuckie cheese parties are. If they give you money to play or not if you're in the party. And then I'm wondering if it's an actual birthday party or if they're just going to chuckie cheese. Some guy in my building told me a couple weeks ago that his son's birthday is today and he's thinking of doing chuckie cheese. They sent an invite but I feel so insecure not being able to afford anything. Like if they don't have food for example. Idk what to do.

Midwife check

Can someone remind me when the midwife visits you at home? Is it the day after you’re discharged? And is that the same on the weekend or do they not visit then? Thanks!

Owlet

Anyone else’s owlet driving them mad?? It goes off 5/6 times night saying it can’t get a reading and needs a snug fit. My baby is 8 months old so moves a lot. It is driving me insane and I keep end up taking it off! Anyone had similar issues?
