So my baby is definitely tongue tie but I just wondered what the process is? What do I do? Does it have to be cut and if no what are the issues it can cause if not cut? Is it a horrible procedure ? Are they in pain for ages after???
Any and all information welcome!!!!

If they are feeding ok there isn’t any need to get it cut. It affects breastfeeding more than bottle. I paid for mine for be done privately it was around £200. They do an assessment on whether is needs to be done, it is cut with scissors whilst the baby is swaddled. It literally takes 1 second to cut. My baby slept through it. No affects after at all for us.
It can affect speech long term. Depending on how bad it is.
I’m not sure how easy / quick it is to get it done on the nhs. I imagine it depends on weight gain.

The NHS will do it but only up to a certain age I think. We were referred at our 5 day check and he had it checked and revised when he was 10days old through the NHS, I can't fault them at all.
My little boy had all the signs for tongue tie but his weight gain was great and 3 midwives all said he didn't have one, but his was so thick that he needed two snips. Only the licensed practitioners (that Danielle has linked) are able to say whether your baby has a tie and whether it needs revising.
It's over very quickly, I cried because my baby cried and its horrible knowing I allowed someone to do that to him, but I popped him straight on the boob and he settled and went back to sleep (he was actually more upset by the midwife holding his head than the snips) he didn't seem distressed or in pain from it after
