Bedtime

What time are you getting your LOs down for the night now and how are you finding bedtime? We’ve had the sane routine since my daughter was a few weeks old - bath with her older sister and 6.45, followed by a bottle and ideally in bed by 7.30. This worked at first but over the last few weeks she’s been fighting it a lot and, with the exception of a few days last week which were a lot easier, it’s a bit of a battle to get her down and features a lot of screaming and resettling. Not sure if we are putting her down too early or late? Her last nap is usually a cat nap (30-45 mins) and finishes by 6. She’s pretty good at settling herself from a night feed, but seems to be unable to do it at bedtime, even with her dummy.

We've had the same "routine" since I brought my little one home and it seems to have worked. We take him up to bed at 8:30 and we give him a bath, get him ready for bed and then give him a bottle (this swaps round depending on if he wants a bottle first). I put him in his sleeping bag and he knows then that it's night time and he's usually asleep by 9-9:30. I sometimes have play some white noise if he's feeling a bit unsettled. Maybe try moving her bedtime to a bit later and see if that helps.

Hey lovely, from what I read a bedtime between 7-8pm is ideal so you’re within that ragged. As well as ensuring that bay is awake for 2 hrs prior to bedtime so you might need to move your LOs last nap to a bit earlier. Also, you may want to consider how much day time sleep your LO is getting in total as I’ve seen 3-4 months is between 3-4 hrs so if they’re getting more they may not be sleepy at night. Hope that helps 😊

Completely understandable as you have your eldest in a good routine and it would disrupt that. What do you do for daytime naps? Might be worth changing them up a little bit and seeing if that helps 🤔 good luck mama 💕

How are you all doing this? Are you leaving baby in the room on their own and going downstairs with a monitor on them or staying in the bedroom with them whilst they sleep? I’ve just been keeping my baby downstairs with me (albeit asleep) as the guidance is for them not to sleep alone until 6 months. Absolutely no judgement if you are using a monitor, I’m just curious as am looking to switch our routine up a bit.

I hold him until he's asleep and sometimes rock if he's taking a bit longer to go to sleep 😊 if he's feeling extra sleepy, he'll self soothe and go to sleep pretty quickly.

My little girl used to go down about 7pm after bath bottle it worked good then she started playing up now we aim for 8pm and she settles much better

My little one tend to put himself to sleep at around 6/6.30 and does 4 hours stretches until about 6am. He has a few small naps during the day. He settles absolutely fine with at bedtime but during the day he will not settle for a nap it's like he has fomo 🙈xx

Describing the birth…

If you are going to be rude or insensitive to others, don’t comment on this post.

if you gave birth via caesarean, would it bother you if someone asked if you gave birth “naturally or by caesarean” (nothing to do with whether you were medicated).

When I gave birth I always answered “vaginally” to others and they seemed uncomfortable 🤣 there was nothing natural about that shit show lmao

PPD please help

Hi, not expecting a diagnosis obviously but maybe just some opinions and or advice. I have a nearly 4 month old. I’ve been to my doctor re my mental health and they have told me to do a self referral for some talk therapy but it looks like it could take a few months. I’m really struggling but I don’t know if it’s a normal amount as a new first time mum or something more. I feel very low a lot of the time, crying most days but not every day, feeling isolated (no mum friends), feeling like I’m not enjoying being a mum as much as I hoped, missing my old life and freedom, struggling with patience and the constant crying and fussing, feeling like it’s Groundhog Day, jealous of my husbands life, feeling like I’m not doing a good enough job, worrying I’m not doing things well enough and it will negatively affect her, only feeling better when I have people with me who know about kids and can step in and help eg in laws etc. I have tried hard to work on being positive, I get out for multiple walks every day, I’ve joined a sensory class, I’m on this app but I feel like none of it is really working or doing much. I feel like I’m ticking boxes of things that should help but I’m not making any mum friends and honestly a lot of the time it feels like I’m masking. Sometimes I get so upset and cry and I can’t really explain why….

Pushchair Advice

After lots of research, shop visits and trying different options, we’ve narrowed it down to the Joolz Aer², Silver Cross Nia and Bugaboo Butterfly.

We’re looking for one lightweight pushchair that is sturdy enough for everyday use, easy to carry as we live somewhere with no lift, and practical for travel too. We’d really prefer not to buy multiple pushchairs for different purposes, so ideally we want something that can work from newborn through to later toddler years.

We have tried all 3 and I feel in terms of sturdiness, Bugaboo would be the most sturdy, followed by Nia and then Joolz Aer2. Aesthetically and colour wise, I do prefer the Nia design.

Has anyone used any of these as their main everyday pushchair from birth? Would love to hear your experience and recommendations.

Nursery

Hi, I am going to be a first time mum in December, at the moment we have a double bed in the spare room (which is going to be the nursery) my initial plan was to sell the bed, do people think this is a good idea.
Or during the night do you think it’s good to have in case baby won’t settle, and I can sleep in the spare room with him.
Preferably I would want to sleep in the same bed as my partner so hopefully won’t need it.
I just wondered what other people did?

Co-sleeping

I’m feeling quite guilty.. I’m exclusively breastfeeding and my baby is 10 weeks now, my husband is in the navy also which means me and baby alone most night. I’ve found myself just ending up co sleeping just because it happens, I feed then fall asleep and that’s how I sleep. When he was smaller and a new born or if me or if me and my husband are both in the bed I always prefer him and feel better with him in the next to me but when it’s just me is it okay to co sleep. Any tips on how to stay safe? I feel guilty because all my family hate it and the idea of it and I do too but non of them have ever breastfed.
