I feel fortunate enough to have a night nurse 3 times a week and a newborn care specialist full time during the week. I just wanted to share some of the biggest things I’ve learned that has been game changing.
1. Follow wake windows!! Biggest tip 90 minutes max and follow a routine into a nap time
2. Giving a “top off” before nap time so they are napping better and get more calories in during the day to sleep better at night (careful not to over feed and don’t do this for reflux baby)
3. Have sleep signals for baby’s (softer voice, diaper change, into sleep sack , white noise, darken room, song, pats to sleep)
4. Connect sleep cycles. If you baby wakes up after a 30 min nap, try to resettle them to get a full hour and a half two hour nap. This isn’t alwYs possible but try and after 10/15 min of trying to resettle.. start the sleep cycle again.
5. Fans. If your baby is in a room by themselves put a fan to the wall to circulate air & reduce the risk of SIDS.
6. Make the room COLD. Our baby like it 68’ in a short sleeve onsie & a zippidie. This also reduces risk of SIDS
7. Check to make sure ur baby isn’t favoring one side. If they only look to the left and only move their left arm work on placing their head to the right to avoid having a helmet baby.
I think that’s it lmk if u have any questions!
