Hi ladies!
Is it possible to have elective c-section in public system?
Last time I saw midwife, she was insisting to convince me to have vaginal birth but i am 100% I don’t want.
I am nervous about it :(
Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!

I’m fairly sure it isn’t possible to have an elective c-section in the public system. My midwife told me that you need to have a medical reason for a c-section to happen.
I understand how you’re feeling! I’m a first time mum and feeling nervous too. I’m trying to be positive and educate myself on how to have a positive birth. But it’s hard not to worry about the things that could go wrong and a part of me would be relieved if baby was breech and we needed to do a c-section

There is but as you saying they will push you have vaginal birth. There might be extra cost for anesthetiser. We went private after all it was easier and have my doctor who you will have at the procedure and get you ready. Going with my second c-section as well. Recovery is not that bad if you do what you have to and it’s just “easier” for me, know where, what time and in calm environment. With me being relax, with no pain and be ready. Good luck

Also unsure of answer - I’ve opted for an elective c section through public, but this is my second pregnancy and I’ve elected to have one due to a traumatic first birth. Definitely think that you should be able to advocate for yourself (your body, your choice) regardless though - good luck!

Yes you can ask for an elective in public, they will try convince you to do natural but they can’t actually say no is what I was told by my midwife.. I asked for an elective c section with my first Bub in 2022 said I suffer anxiety and don’t want a natural birth, it was the best decision I ever made, didn’t feel a thing, I was able to have my music playing in the background to keep me calm ( make sure you let them know this prior) and Bub was in my arms within a few minutes! Recovery was fine barely any pain as long as I kept up with my painkillers, I was up and walking around like nothing by the 2 week mark! All the best xx it’s completely up to you how you birth if someone tries to convince you otherwise ask for a different midwife or head dr and explain your feelings to them, it’s a completely personal experience

I am in Brisbane at RBWH public and they support elective cesarean, I have already advised them I will be doing this and they’re happy to support it. 💗 I hope you can too.
