I’m wanting to be more organised in general and wondered if this is okay.
Boil water
Measure out the amount in the bottle while the water is still near boiling hot - does it need to be still hot or can I used cooled boiled water?
Add the right amount of formula
Once bottles cooled down put in fridge to use within 24 hours?
I’d like to make up all my bottles for the next day the night before, is that okay? And can I let the water cook right down or do I need to use it still hot?

The water has to be 70 degrees when you mix in the powder so it can destroy any bacteria in the powder - usually have to wait around 30 mins for the kettle to cool down to this temp.
All formula packaging will say preferably don’t pre prep bottles but I always did when I made them this way! Only keep for maximum 24 hours so I’d prep in the morning for that day.
You def need to always mix in the powder when the water is hot though x
Ah perfect thank you!!! That makes more sense to do it in the morning as I breastfeed at night and first thing in the morning so that way they are only actually pre made from about 8am till 8pm rather than from 22:00 the night before! Thank you!!

Same as Coral. My brand says don’t make bottles more than 2 hours in advance …. But I didn’t clock that until she was about 13 weeks old 😅 I’d make up 4 bottles at a time, cool them, put them in the fridge and warm as needed. She’s 17 weeks now and hasn’t had any problems

You’re welcome! I recently got a tommee tippee prep machine as I got bored with making up the bottles!

The reason they state not to pre-prepare bottles is because once made up the bacteria starts to grow (yes, even in the fridge) and can cause sickness. It is a common cause of gastro in formula fed babies.
This is why hey say to prepare them as needed only.
And to ensure the water is boiled and no less than 70°c to ensure it kills the bacteria that had already formed in the formula box.
Distilled water means the bacteria in the box isn’t being killed. Boiling the water isn’t about sterilising the water as much as it is about sterilising the actual formula. Not recommended.
Making up the bottle and then running under a cold tap or placing in an ice water bowl will cool it down.
The prep machines or hot shots do not use enough hot water to sterilise the formula.

No idea, especially when NHS, UNICEF, BabyMilkAction, WHO, NICE, etc all state to use boiling water.
Some American hospitals state nursery water &/ distilled water, but often they have not researched that the formula needs to be boiled and assume that the water alone does. Also in America they promote ill advice to gain more patients, or gain commissions. Sometimes other countries follow America without looking at the research, but the countries that follow the research state to boil the water. That way it kills off listeria, ecoli and other nasties. Gastro is linked to formula not being prepped properly.

Maybe step back and think about it scientifically.
The box of formula is not sterile, there are live components in it (fish oil, dairy, etc) so how can you prevent bacteria growing once you add eater to it?
Eg distilled water, although sterile cannot sterilise the formula. So boiling the distilled water, or general water would be more sufficient.
Does that make sense, or do you believe that formula would be sterile even with the ingredients in it? Do you believe the distilled water would sterilise the formula?
Sometimes we are told things by health profs, but they aren’t following protocols, only opinions. It is sad they get away with it. That is on them not you.

I think poor Brenda has just felt slightly belittled with your comments. It’s a good thing to give advice and teach other mums things they might not know but the way you’ve come across is a bit condescending. If a healthcare professional tells you something, the majority of the time you aren’t going to question it.
Maybe step back and look at the group we are commenting in - First time mums. We don’t know everything

Internet sucks as it doesn’t give tone and makes things sound much more clinical than it is intended to sound.
Health professionals are to blame, not Brenda (or other Mums), they shouldn’t be allowed to give opinion outside of protocols, policy or law. Sadly they do that daily. 😔
