My son has started school and will be doing packed lunches for him.
What kind of things am I not allowed to pack in there? Besides the obvious no nuts.
3 days at school already and I’m literally struggling to think of things.
Can he have crisps? Is 1 chocolate item ok or aren’t any allowed?

Think it depends on the school. The only rule I think we have is the prime energy drink. I do yoghurt, banana and cake bar. I would do crisps but they are hit and miss. Sandwiches she will refuse to eat the rest of her lunch if I put them in so try fruit bread, pitta bread, croissants and rotate. First two weeks she didn’t touch her lunch and they didn’t seem to notice.

Definitely depends on the school! My son and nephew have both gone into Y3 in separate schools, my nephew can have crisps/chocolate as part of their lunch, whereas my son can’t have crisps/chocolate/chocolate spread etc🫣 very difficult when you have a kid who hates most food🙄 I’d ask for their policy :) xx

My eldest has just gone into year 4, second year of pack lunch and i still have no clue, she will eat the same thing everyday and not always the healthiest. Here are some ideas it all depends on what your son eats really, pittas or wraps sandwiches, yoghurts, frubes, different fruits, carrot cucumber pepper sticks, maybe a pasta salad. I know some kids go in with cold chicken drumsticks burgers sausages the lot. If his school hasn’t mentioned no crisps then i would carry on same with the chocolate, they ask at my daughters school no chocolate but she still has something with it in she would be so annoyed with no pudding.

I let my boys have 1 packed lunch a week. They have some of the following:
- sandwiches / sausage rolls / veggie muffins / pizza pinwheels
- homemade ‘lunchables’ (cheese, cooked meat and crackers)
- mini cheddars, breadsticks, rice cakes (snack a jacks), crackers, crisps (as our school does allow it)
- fresh fruit / veg sticks (always)
- dried fruit / fruit snacks (eg raisins, dried apricots, apple crisps, fruit leather, yogurt covered raisins)
- biscuit or cake type snacks (iced gems, homemade cake/biscuit/gingerbread, mini cookies/party rings/oreos, penguin or chocolate biscuit occasionally (try to avoid chocolate as it’s messy)
- yogurts
