Husband and I own our house and my elderly nan lives with us. She’s still “independent” but she doesn’t leave the house on her own, we will take her to all appointments, sort shopping and her dogs out. I mentioned to her (politely) this evening that once the baby arrives we don’t want any visitors that aren’t family in the house so it would mean that the hairdresser that comes into the house wouldn’t be able to come for 4 or so weeks. She’s reacted as if I was maliciously stopping her getting her hair done and asked me if she “will even allowed to hold the baby” . I explained I’d be happy to figure something out for that time frame whether it be another family member taking her to a hairdressers etc.
She’s made me feel so guilty for even asking and is now refusing to talk to me. I guess I looking for someone in a similar position or someone to tell me if I’m in the wrong?

NTA especially if you arrange someone else to help her to the hairdresser. Sounds like you do so much for her day to day she can be understanding for a couple of weeks!

NTA however she's an older lady and probably used to the routine and having the same hairdresser.

I think yes in a way. It’s not like other family members are coming to visit it’s literally someone for your nan. It has nothing to do with y’all. She lives with you she shouldn’t have to not be able to do anything just because y’all don’t want people there. It’s not that often and the person would only be there for a few hours. It’s not a family member that would be interrupting your time.

If she can go to the hairdresser and someone can bring her all the time she wants then sure plan that out. But I don’t think she should now be a prisoner just because y’all had a baby. She could still have this person come every so often and they wouldn’t mess with you

Not unreasonable.. it’s only the first few weeks and you’ve given her enough notice to be able to do it elsewhere, and offered to help accommodate that. What if another family member had your nans usual hairdresser do her hair at their house so it’s at least who she’s used to?
