LO stayed at in-laws last night

So my baby girl (6 months) stayed at my in-laws last night and I hardly slept for missing her so much.

My in-laws have been wanting to have my baby girl over night and been going on and on about it for ages that I finally relented to shut them up. (My parents had her because we went away for one night and they said it wasn’t fair they didn’t get her).

It seems she has been perfectly fine and has had a lovely time with them, which is great. But I know that they will want it to be a regular thing now.

Before she went my husband was on the same train of thought as me of that it’s a one off and just to please them and she will only stay with them again if we need to go away or something.

But now he has decided that if they want her overnight again they can have her. He does very little to look after her. I look after her all day, evening and do every night. I don’t want my baby girl staying there all the time. I want her here with me.

Am I being silly? Should I be grateful they want to have her overnight and take the opportunity to have some time to myself??

You're not being silly. She's your daughter and you don't have to let her stay anywhere overnight. They should be grateful you allowed them to have her sleep over.

Nobody else is entitled to your child's time. If you want or need someone to watch her, then do so. But if it's not helpful for you, then it's not necessary. They have no right to guilt trip you.

Simply say you aren't comfortable being away from her overnight unless necessary.

My partner and I agreed that our children won't be doing any overnights with grandparents for a variety of reasons. If they question it, we keep it short and just say we're not comfortable and it's not up for negotiable.

Also, just by reading this I can tell you love your daughter so much 🩵 you sound like a lovely mom!

No . Tell him that can't happen again until you are ready. I tried to let my baby go to her God parents house and I love them and trust them but I couldn't sleep the whole night and was a reck. I had my hubby go get her asap the next morning. There's no point in her spending a night over there if you are going to be stressed out. They can wait until you are comfortable. He needs to understand and respect that .

It’s your baby you decide where you want her to be. You are perfectly in your rights to say no, don’t want her sleeping over right now, they’re only little for such a short amount of time and you might feel differently in a couple of years time; you might want more of a break here and there but for now they need to respect your decision- and I would word it that directly too, make it very clear you’re happy for them to spend time with their grandchild but you don’t want her sleeping over for now

A baby is meant to be with their mother. That’s why you feel that way. When she’s older you maybe you’ll feel more comfortable. Don’t let anyone gaslight your feelings.

The thought of my baby waking up and smiling at someone else makes my heart hurt, so no, you're deffo not being silly

I had a melt down this morning when my in-laws sent me a video of exactly that

You can be grateful that they are trustworthy enough to have her and also not want to leave her. My parents could easily take her, my husband is dying for a night away, but I don't want to. 🤷‍♀️ I'm grateful for the option but not interested and there is nothing wrong with that

Your feelings and reasonings at 100% valid very much. Do not let my in-laws have my child night hours. I just don’t trust it.. tell your husband that maybe if he helped out a little more he could have a little more say because I would definitely be pulling that card with my husband because it’s totally unfair for him to be on your side and then now not, and he’s barely there to take care of her. Nope, that doesn’t fly with me, at least not in my household not everyone’s the same

I wouldn't even have let them have her this time. That's extremely ridiculous and childish of them to act like "its not fair" cause your parents had her when you went away. I'd have told them straight up how stupid they sound for that. But I'm harsh and don't give a shit.
Not a chance in hell they'd be watching my kid just because. If you need it... whole different story.

Hell no! My boy is nearly 2 and he's not stayed away from me at all! I've mentioned him going away with my parents when he's maybe 5.... haha 🤣 your partner doesn't have the right to make decisions without you, and if he's barely doing his bit at home, I'd say he has even less right!

He has no respect for anything to do with me.

Husband and I decided to separate 3 days ago. I've been sleeping on the floor in the kids room, and we both have to stay in the same apartment for a while. He wont stop pushing little things and I am reaching my limit. Photos in comments

Toddlers

How often are your toddlers asking for food? My oldest who is 3 just finished a whole plate of food and not even 10 minutes later he’s requesting more food. I know he’s going through a growth spurt, but how do you respond to this.

Is this normal?

Is it just my husband that does this? He is able to work from home via his computer and in the mornings and evenings he is on there doing his job. When he is done for the day he tends to stay in the room and either play video games or watch something. He will occasionally come out and play with the girls for a few minutes and that’s it but when I really need him he says he is busy. My daughters are both 1 year old now and I am just wondering how much involvement should he have with them now?
Idk if this is the norm or not…..

Saying NO to buying toys etc

5 year old is getting really envious of others. He is obsessed with items that other kids have at school. I am pestered daily to buy these things in a different style when we already have 3 others. I have seen parents just buying stuff their kid likes which I don't necessarily agree with even when i can afford it. How do you deal with it?

Identity crisis?

Am I the only sahm who feels like they have lost their identity??? I don’t make money for my family, when I used to make great money. But I refuse to drop my under a year old baby off with strangers.
My husband works so much. But I have no control over bringing in money and I’m a control freak type of person! I feel l like I’m losing my grip because we are kind of broke, but day care would only eat up my income anyways! So what’s the point. I’m a workaholic and now I’m just a twitching bum.
I wish I could work from home but so far that’s a fake dream. I’m almost 9 months pp, and I just need to know these awful mood swings and depression will end soon! Send wine!
