Formula top ups

So we want to give our baby formula top ups during the night so that I don’t have to express as much. The tommee tippee prep machine only lets you do a minimum of 4 ounces but we’re only giving about 1 ounce of top up after bf . So how do we just do the 30ml and should I be giving more of a top up? He’s 6 weeks and I do 15/20 mins on each breast and then a 30 ml top up.

Make a 4oz bottle then divide it into 2, you’ll potentially still waste an ounce but it’s better than wasting 3, plus it’s always advised to offer more and they leave some

ok so yesterday we skipped the powder at the beginning .. put the hot shot and then cold water as if it’s. 4 ounces and then poured out 3 ounces of water and then added the one scoop .. does that make it wrong ? Because I know you’re meant to shake I’m between 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

Ideally you should be adding the powder to the hot shot to kill any harmful bacteria in the powder. When the cold shot has been added it’s not hot enough anymore so I wouldn’t continue doing it that way

We’ve found the ready made bottles really hand for topping up, a little more expensive at £1 a bottle (200ml) but they last 24 hours once opened so can do 30ml per bottle without wasting it x

I feel like you may have over complicated it for yourself. You can make the 4oz bottle like normal. Hot shot, 4 scoops formula, then rest of water. Then split that bottle into 2 into another sterilised bottle. You can then put the 2nd in the fridge and warm it up at the next feed

Avatar

so can we just make the 4 ounces . Empty out 3 into a bottle to put in the fridge and give him the one ? And the use the one in the fridge for next top up ? X

Avatar

Yep you can do it that way, formula is good in the fridge for 24 hours and as long as baby hasn’t drunk from the bottle, so you could decant 1oz for each top up if you wanted to x

great thanks for the reassurance x

8 week immunisations

My 8 week old has his first set of injections tomorrow and I’m abit nervous. Does anyone have any advice for after the jabs? I know they get a temp after so have got some calpol to give just before hand. Should I put him to bed in less clothing to make sure he doesn’t get too hot? Any tips from your experience with first set of immunisations? Am I worrying more than I need to? 😅

11 month old constantly standing in cot

Please tell me someone has some advice for this cause wow it’s trying. My almost 11 month old is fully on the move now and his new favourite thing is repeatedly pulling to stand in his cot. The problem is that he wears a sleep sack (mainly so his legs don’t get stuck between the bars tbh lol) so he’s not stable enough to lower himself down. So earlier he fell backwards and hit is head and now we feel like we can’t just leave him to it. Typically it’s his first full day at nursery tomorrow and my first day back at work IT’S LIKE HE KNOWS!!
Please tell me someone has some tips. Currently we are quietly placing him back on his back every time but he just keeps doing it! 🤣🤡

Took 9 week old to a family party where there was loud music and she was next to the speaker for most of the time (about 3 hours). She slept through most of it. Do you think she has hearing loss from this?

Freaking out right now :(

Struggling in the 4 month regression

How are people getting out of the 4 month regression? I’ve been looking it up and it says I need to be trying to put him down drowsy but awake but this does not work for my LO. Every time we do this he ends up being wide awake and after almost an hour of trying we have to contact nap/rock to sleep. I want to avoid rocking to sleep because now when he wakes up in the night he needs to be rocked back to sleep which he never used to need.

Nights are constantly broken because we are up 2-3 times to rock him back to sleep. Please give me your tips on how to survive this and how to get out of this!! Constantly feel like I’m failing and doing something wrong
