Has anyone ever been advised by the dietician to take their baby off formula before 1? My son is almost 9 months and we spoke with a dietician a few days ago who advised me to swap him off his alfamino and put him onto oat milk, but a few people have said he should be staying on formula until one. I’m just unsure if to go ahead with it or to get a second opinion x

I was told to keep my daughter on formula until she was 12 months corrected! She was born 6 weeks early, so will be nearly 14 months by the time I transition her x

I’m just so unsure on what to do. She told me to start milk free weaning at first.. I said you are aware he’s nearly 9 months he’s been having food for a few months now 🙄. I did try him with a little oat milk yesterday and he spat it out and wouldn’t have it so I’m just using it in his food at the moment instead of his alfamino but I’m just not sure on completely taking him off formula so soon xx

My little girl stayed on Aptamil Pepti formula til 1 and have just weaned her completely onto the Alpro Growing Up milk which is soya☺️

How much formula is he drinking daily right now? I don’t think you should take him off the formula personally. Has he been tested for CMPA recently? My son outgrew his when he was 10 months old and we were able to put him back on Kendamil! Before the Kendamil we used HippHA.
Just curious why they think you should take him off the formula 🤔

he has around 3-4 7oz bottles a day but sometimes doesn’t finish the whole bottle and also has water during the day. He hasn’t recently been tested, he has his allergy testing next month finally but he was referred for allergy testing and the dietician at 4 weeks and he’s almost 9 months now. They mentioned the milk challenge but advised me not to do it as his milk allergy was so severe it caused severe eczema too and his skin was raw at one point so they’ve said to just avoid it until the testing but want him off formula and just having oat milk only. I’ve never heard of them advising this before so I’m just a little concerned about doing it x

Did they ever mention about coming off the formula early? I’m just confused as to why they’ve advised it with him not even being 9 months yet. I did try him with some oat milk yesterday but he refused it x

nothing was ever mentioned, although I never got a dietician appointment until she turned 1 - 9 months after she was diagnosed🙃
If you want to stick with his formula then I would. They get all their vitamins from it and most people don’t wean to cows milk until 1 anyway. You could start using oat milk in porridge or other foods to help get him used to the alternative. I’d recommend the alpro growing up milk personally (can be found with long life shelf milk)

the wait lists are so long arent they it’s a shame! I did use an alpro one yesterday to try but he just spat it out and refused it but he does seem to have it with his porridge just fine. She also said she wanted me to wean him completely off bottles and just onto sippy cups which I also thought was weird? He still feeds to sleep sometimes so god knows how that’s meant to work 😂 x

I would definitely seek a second opinion here. Baby has already been through so much with a milk allergy and I was under the impression that milk had to be their primary source of food until 12 months. If baby was like 11 months that better but 9 months?? Seems very early to me.

Exactly what I thought, 9 months seems far too soon to me too! I’ll definitely be calling his paediatrician today for a second opinion! X

such a shame, could’ve had way more help earlier than I have. Have you tried adding it in the bottle with his formula? Just 1oz see if he takes it? It’s a bit of an adjustment but I just lowered the amount of formula and increased the amount of alrpo. Why wean off bottles yet?! My daughter is capable of holding her bottle but she prefers me to feed her before bed and have a cuddle! Do what feels best for you, just take what they say as guidance imo x

I know, the support has been non existent! No but I will be trying that next I think, I even tried it a little warm but he’s such a milk monster for his alfamino (not sure how it stinks 😂) and no idea! He does have his water from a MAM trainer cup with a spout but he’s the same, he feeds to sleep with a cuddle so I don’t feel ready to take that away from him yet! Xx

It’s all new protocols and it’s to save money on the prescriptions!!
My older 3 all had cmpa and were given their prescription milk till they stopped taking it. One was 12 months, one 15 months and one 17 months.
But with our youngest we were told to find a milk he will have, as the prescription will be stopping at 12 months no matter what. I just bulk ordered my prescriptions up till his birthday so I’ve got a good stock as he refused all other milks x
