Feeling hopeless/depressed

I’ve never felt like this until now. Baby boy has been THE fussiest he’s ever been. Screaming once it hits 2pm and from then on just feel like he’s not happy? I do every thing with him. I’ve been crying the past 2 days as I am the only one with him the entire day. Not sure if he’s teething.
Also feel like I have no help, and the mother in law situation is not getting better.

Anyone else going through this? I never felt depressed but I’m really trying to stop myself from falling into it, plus I go back to work on Monday part time.

Hi! I'm sorry you're going through that. Honestly, going back to work might help with how you're feeling and give you a break. When I went back to work last week, I missed my baby of course, but the break makes it a bit easier to handle the behavior when you get home.

I struggle with depression and anxiety before pregnancy and have been working on my mental health for years. One thing that's been helping me recently is doing three things everyday just because they make me happy. For example today I made myself a nice lunch and I'm going to watch a tv show and make chocolate covered apples. Focusing on finding three things everyday just to bring myself joy helps me focus my mind on positive things. While I was stressed at work my thoughts went to what can I do today to make me smile instead of what else needs to be done.

If it’s happening at the same time everyday maybe he is overtired? What are his naps like?

Avatar

thank you love. I needed to hear that I’m sad about it but I know I need time out of the house. I pray we handle it so well 🙏

Avatar

that is such a great thing to do. I love it and will do that everyday. I love my baby and I feel so great but sad to be going back to work. This will help for sure.

Avatar

we follow his nap schedule well but he only naps for about 30-40 min max. He’s getting bored of all activities things we do

Avatar

Dang, sorry that's happening! I can relate though. My babe is 3 months and is definitely going through a development leap. We stick to swaddled naps in a dark room with his sound machine on. That really helps him get good quality rest. I'd also suggest making sure babe is getting full feeds. I began really prioritizing that with my lil guy and its made a notice difference in his naps/mood. You could also try baby wearing to settle him or long stroller sessions? It'll get better❤️

I felt like this a month ago, I thought I had PPD and it was so bad. I started doing some babysitting job (with my baby) and it helped to just get out of the house and do something everyday.

Now I feel so much better, my baby is really calm and content. But it’s true that when she is going through a leap my mood is not so great..

It will be better soon!!

Avatar

my baby used to do this also. May I ask… is he asleep when you put him in the bassinet? Sleep cycles are only that short and if he doesn’t have the ability to put himself back to sleep then he will wake up…

I’ve started sleep training and my 3mth old is awake in her bassinet before she naps. At the beginning she still woke up after 40 mins, but i implemented a technique I read about in a nap book. I’ll link a photo of the pages here. She now sleeps like 1hr 15 - 2hr naps for her 1st and sometimes second naps!!

Avatar

I intervene at the moment the cycle changes

Avatar

thank you! I tried baby wearing he is not a fan but he did fall asleep :) thank you I know it will !! 🤍

Avatar

he loves getting out!! Thank you, he is def going through a leap just longer than expected! I can tell because he learned new skills 🫶🏽😬

Avatar

Omgosh I just read the pages you sent. I’m going to try this and have the new nanny do it as well. I’d say he is somewhat great at putting down to nap except the past 2 days. You may have just saved our naps!! Thank you SO much! 🙏

Avatar

You’re welcome!! It works almost everytime! I put my hand on her chest and move the swivel bassinet from
Side to side pretty quickly and softly sing one round of twinkle twinkle.. I’ve found doing that for like 5-10 mins will get her to sleep another sleep cycle.

That ob defeats the goal of her learning to put herself back to sleep but apparently doing this a few times will get their brain used to falling back asleep during a nap and having longer ones.

Without it the sleep drive is too low and it’s too difficult to go back to sleep on their own…

Would love to hear how it goes

Avatar

sooo we did it!! Since he sleeps in the crib, I patted the mattress and he didn’t even wake!! You helped so much! Trying it again now 😬🙏🙏🙏

Avatar

Ohh so he immediately went back to sleep? Yay! My attempt during her third nap failed.. it’s harder in the afternoon because the sleep drive is much lower. But it’s def worth a shot glad you had some success

Avatar

@Nadia lol my lil guy doesn't like being in the carrier initially. He typically settles in and has a good nap😊

Avatar

yes which is so rare for him!! His eyes close right away lol. I’m going to try throughout the day to see which nap gets extended the longest

Avatar

Yaaaaaayyyyyyyy!!

Avatar

haha yes I gotta let him scream a little but then he gets better!

Avatar

Still having success? I’m unsure whether I want to continue. I’ve extended her first and second nap today but since I started doing this she cries after 40mins during her bedtime sleep (never used to do this never ever ever). I’m
Worried I’ve created a sleep crutch by extending her naps????

Avatar

I haven’t after that first day! Is she 3 months? My baby has been waking up every 2-3 hours now And he would usually go 5 and half hours. I’m sure it’s a growth spurt! And mines teething bad lol

Heartbreak

After years of trying, months of back and fourth on the fate of our marriage, indecision, fights. The whole enchilada my husband and I are separating, divorcing. Whatever. I'm so goddamn heart broken. I feel like it's a death and I'm in mourning. We have a 3 year old son and currently and for the foreseeable we are going to coparent and live together. This makes things harder because neither one of us can really move on but it's how it is. He understands and he's trying to heal too. But I can't understand why now that things are over he can be kind. He's been more amazing in the last week since I ended things than ever. Why couldn't he do that when we were together for years I begged for change, we saw a counselor I tried everything and he just wouldn't. Now he seems to turn a switch and be able to just do it all. But it's too late. My heart aches. My body aches. Love sucks.

Partner works incredibly long hours, how much do they help out?

I'm struggling. Have been for a while. I've had one break from parenting my daughter, that was for 3 hours in December when I left her with her dad.

She's 14 months old and I'm just tired. I've done every night by myself. He's out of bed at 4am and doesn't get home until 7-9pm. He drives for work, very physically tiring.
On the weekends he was doing 6 days, one weekend day off, but now has both off.

He doesn't sit on the floor and play with her, he doesn't read to her because he says she doesn't have the patience.
He will pick her up and hold her whilst he's cooking.

Recently I've been "snappy" with him.
He got back from the mechanic last weekend, she was getting onto the sofa and he put his headphones on and started to watch Netflix on his phone.
The same day I told him I was going to run her bath and to watch her whilst she was still eating, he fell asleep on the sofa.

Today he went to football after going shopping, so was out 1-3 and then from 4-8.
He got back and I was snappy.

"I don't get why you're so snappy with me"

I said - Probably because I haven't had a break since December.

"Do you think I don't know you haven't had a break. I haven't had a break", "I just won't go to work, I'll sit at home all day".

Then "do you think I like not having a connection to my child"... But that's on him? He never sits to play with her. He "doesn't see the point". He's stated that this age is boring to him.

Since she's been born, he has been to a friend's once a month. Football - He stopped going for 7months, but has been the last two weekends.

Are these not breaks?

He does do the washing/washing up/cooking/vacuuming when I haven't had a chance to; but I'm the one in charge of feeding her, naps/bedtime, teeth brushing, hair brushing, baths, dressing her, making sure she has the right shoes, appointments etc. Everything falls on me.

If your partner works ridiculously long hours, how much do they look after your child? Do you ever get a break?

Am I wrong ?

My daughter’s 1st birthday was Thursday and nobody wished her a happy birthday from her dads family but his mom watched his story. Should I put my foot down and set boundaries for them to accept accountability or should I just let them stay on that side for as long as they want and not worry about it?

Hi mummas! I need help with potty training?

My daughter is 4 years old, she will be turning 5 this November. I’ve tried everything I can think of, to help her and encourage her. I’ve tried bribing, I’ve tried sticker charts, I’ve tried buying her underwear of her choice— nothing. She’s suspected autistic. She will not try. She will sit on the potty at nursery for a few minutes and that’s it! At home, nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated 🎀✨
