My husband has suicidal thoughts. He's in therapy and I'm so the only one who knows in our family. Everyone else just thinks that "he's dramatic and immature" bc he can get over the top about situations and doesn't regulate well in stressful times. Again he's in therapy for this. Recently his car was broken into and the thief took well over $1500 worth of things and his medication. The same day his company suspended him for said things being stolen. And then he popped a tire in the middle of a thunderstorm. So stress stress STRESS! I drove out to him cause he called me freaking out and I had to bring our 7month old with me. It was her bedtime at this point and I called my mil to see if she could help. I literally said "this is an emergency, can you take the baby for a few hrs?" (Triple A said it was gonna be 2 hrs till they could get to him) Anyhoo, my mil says she can't and asked what happened. I told her my husband was having a "panic attack" and it was very bad, that I didn't feel comfortable with him by himself. She literally goes"oh well it's not that big of a deal. He's just dramatic" she then said she'd take the baby if my fil didn't. (They're divorced). So I called my fil and he said LITERALLY THE SAME FUCKING THING!" At this point I'm already where my husband is and I have the baby in the car. Thank god for Ms Rachael. Anyhoo, my husband was shaking and his were black. There was like nothing in them. We got his therapist on the phone and thankfully she talked him down. We waited until triple a came and when we got him the baby went down without fuss and we just cuddled all night. Next morning I tell him what happened with his parents and he was so disappointed. He told me that he had told his mom about his suicidal thoughts THE DAY BEFORE THE FUCKING CAR INCENT! He said he felt like he has no support form them. Later that morning his mom texted apologizing about not helping but int ye dame fucking sentence said we "need to learn how to be adults and handle situations like that". At this point I'm fuming however I'm not saying anything cause my husband doesn't need me to start a war with his mom. Later his dad calls and asks for any updates on the previous night. He does not know about my husbands suicidal thoughts. So my husband kinda goes into it about what happens but my fil literally said that we need to learn how to be adults too. Now it's the 3rd day since the initial incident and my mil comes over to tak about that day. She's asks how I'm doing and I just say "tired" cause i am. And she goes to say how she's sorry for not being able to help. She says we'll always have her to help if there's any emergency. She then says that we need to learn to grow up and become adults who can handle it... thank god my baby started fussing at this point cause I was ready to deck her. I LITERALLY SAID THERE WAS AN EMERGENCY AND YOU KNEW ABOUT MY HUSBANDS THOUGHTS AND YET YOU TREATED IT LIKE IT WAS SOME AORT OF INCONVENIENCE!!! Thankfully I did deal with the situations like an adult. I'm just so mad about this right now and I was wondering if I could possibly overreacting or if I'm justified if my feelings. My poor husband doesn't know what to do or say to his parents.

Firstly, you are not overreacting at all. Both of their reactions were so uncalled for and unhelpful and could’ve made a very bad situation even worse. Secondly, you are both doing what you can right now, and that’s all you can ask for! Therapy is going to be the best thing for your husband, he just needs to give it time and his full effort. It sounds like he’s in the right place!
I know that this is easier said than done… but I truly believe that EVERYTHING happens for a reason. As long as you have each other to support one another, you can make it through this. Continue to support your husband the best way that you can, and don’t worry about anyone else. Including his family. I wish there was something more I could do, but I’m sending so much love and good energy your way! I hope things get better for you both soon. ❤️
