I have horrific worsening sciatica and I'm about to refer myself to physio after thinking for weeks it would go away. But it's only getting worse. Has anyone else had this and managed to relieve it? I can barely walk and I'm in constant agony

I suffer from sciatica normally (pre pregnancy) but when I first got pregnant I had it for 5 weeks straight, it was hell! Personally physio was crap for me. The only thing that works is osteopaths - but you need to go regularly. I had one a week for 4 weeks to actually get rid of it then I have one every 6 weeks to keep it at bay!

@Ami I've had it when not pregnant too but usually rest is all I need to make it go away. No matter what I do it's not going away and it's insanely bad I feel like I need a wheelchair. I had low hopes for physio but was somehow hoping it would help š«„

@Ami what did the osteopath do with you that helped it go away and keep it at bay?

pre pregnancy I would only ever had it for a day or 2 and it would go away on its own (although I did have annual osteopath appointments anyway). But yes when I got it in pregnancy it was horrendous, I couldnāt put my foot on the ground without crying out in pain. The baby is probably sitting on your sciatic nerve. I strongly recommend osteopath and sticking with it, over physio! X

If you can afford it chiropractor, I suffered before and slipped discs.
Now pregnant I can't take anything for it.
Chiropractor has helped, streches for sciatica, and cold therapy, these are helping me stay sane

Iāve got a reusable ice pack which I can wear around my back and a bump support belt from Amazon, done the recommended stretches and got nowhere but I have an appointment with a pregnancy specialist private chiro next week so hoping that helps, I have sciatica mixed with pelvic dysfunction and basically been told to rest, take paracetamol and use crutches or a wheelchair if I feel like I need it š¬

Check for Spinal pelvic dysfunction too, baby could be sitting on your pelvis. Goes hand in hand with sciatica, in pregnancy I have SPD & physio focuses more on the hips and legs, rather than just lower back. Iāve had them all my pregnancies and sometimes results to crutches

@YB I definitely think I have spd too. I had a sore hip on the right even before pregnant and I slipped early in pregnancy and pulled my vagina and now its all just worse. Both hips have hurt for a while but the right side now feels like sciatica and its not my back its like my ass and under down my leg which is where I normally feel it. How far in do you usually need crutches?
