My half sister claims benefits and gets disability pay over anxiety (no clue how as I know it’s not bad she puts it on and people out their suffer more plus I have anxiety and depression and working helps me so much! She’s also told me she never wants to work and always claim, it’s sad she’s only 22) anyways she gets a lot of money and her partner works full time and she’s not told the government so gets all her benefits and his money. She’s told me it’s like 4-5k a month.
Anyways she constantly lends money of me. I work and my partner works 24/7 we never see eachother and get less then them a month.
She’s also spends 60% of their money on weed. (I don’t smoke it but to me don’t see how this is possible 😅). I have no money atm and she’s just asked to lend 10 because she has no formula or wipes for the baby. I’m really fed up now. Our other siblings have told her where to go as they are sick of it too.
I don’t want to lend her it (I don’t have it I’ll have to lend it if someone else to give her I don’t get paid till Monday) but I don’t want my nephew going without food.
What would you do? I want to tell her she needs to start prioritising her baby and stop buying so much weed and even stop playing the benefit system see what the real world is like 😅
I have 2 kids myself and it breaks my heart I wear the same clothes from 7 years ago so I can get my kids all new stuff 😅
Sorry for the rant I’m just fed up and now feel guilty if I say no.

As hard as it is to see your nephew go without you can't keep lending her money, she needs to be responsible and the only way she'll do that is by having no one to rely on. I'm not sure what you can do to help without giving her the money or anything as I wouldn't want my nephew or even my own child going without but if she keeps getting help she won't learn I don't think
Thankyou. Yeah it’s probably the only way she will learn. Just puts me in a position where I feel awful 😩
sorry if I wasn’t clear this is including her partners wage as she’s claimed as single instead of as a couple. I was going to go drop it off for her but both my kids are in bed and apparently she’s got nothing in the house. I will definitely say that too her it’s seems stern but not mean haha Thankyou!
that’s what I thought but apparently she can. I was going to go tomorrow morning but apparently she’s got none for the night. Now Iv been reading these messages I’m thinking she’s probably going to do something else with the money. Why would she message me so late if she is about to run out why not thismorning 😅 just feel like a mug now haha.

Honestly if she’s spending that much on weed and isn’t buying food for the baby, I’d be calling children’s services because of how worried I’d be for my nephew. But if you’re not at that stage yet, I agree with above - take her some wipes and formula in the morning she’ll soon shut up.
I know where your coming from, Iv thought about it before. I don’t know what weed is like I don’t do it so didn’t know if it’s safe to consume so much around a baby? He is also very delayed in his development due to lack of encouragement. She does have a social worker already. So surely they would pick up on it? Her house stinks of it. Yeah probably would say she needs something else haha! Thankyou!

I would stop giving her money and if she’s lying about benefits I’d report her. If she’s spending money on drugs rather than feeding her child that’s concerning and I would be worried about his safety.

This is definitely a child safeguarding issue. Not to mention benefit fraud. Smoking weed around a baby can be very detrimental to both their mental health as they grow up but also their brain development.
Choosing to spend money on drugs instead of feeding their child is unacceptable and their social worker needs to know about it. It sounds like this isn't a safe environment for the baby and they might just not be aware of that and need some extra support from social services. Either way, you're not doing your nephew any favours by keeping giving her money. She needs to learn to budget for herself. Next time you're buying wipes etc, get a couple of extra packs and some formula and say "these were on offer so I thought I'd pick them up for you as I can't afford to keep giving you money".

It’s not good for a baby to breathe in the smoke. Also, if the adults caring for him are smoking a lot they’re judgment is compromised which can lead to them making unsafe or stupid decisions, or falling asleep in dangerous situations. In small amounts, weed itself isn’t a safeguarding issue especially if someone is staying sober to care for the baby, but with how much she is spending I’d be really concerned if she’s sober enough to be looking after him at all. Nurseries aren’t allowed to release children into the care of adults who are drunk or under the influence of drugs for this reason.
