Car seat recommendations for PLANE travel ✈️ UK

Hey! We are travelling with my 2 year old at the end of the year and she needs a car seat for the flights. It has to be forward facing (easy jet) Can anyone help with this please? I don’t want to spend the earth. We will also use it for the taxi transfer at the other end. Please link or photos 🫶🏼 Thanks 🙏🏽🙏🏽 Edit** we have an iso fix car seat we use for our car which is rear and forward facing. Does anyone know of east jet accepts iso fix on the air craft / and are French cars iso fix compatible?? I would ring east jet but they have been a NIGHTMARE !!! So that’s my last call! I’ve been on their website but can’t find specifics

Hiya! Have you checked if a car seat is needed? Only asking because I took my son abroad twice this year when he was 2 and didn’t need a car seat just saying incase you think they’re always needed on flights.

We have flown easyJet with our baby, no car seat and just on on laps. Lots of toddlers on there sitting on seats without car seats. In fact I’ve never seen anyone use a car seat on a flight, I know it’s possible but I think it’s quite an American thing to do! I remember being told that very few car seats are appropriate in the UK

I’ve never heard of having to have a car seat for a flight and I’m cabin crew?! We suggest them for children who need additional needs but not for 2 years old! If over 2 you will just have to pay for a seat like anyone else and use seat seatbelt x

Looking at easyJet’s website, it only mentions infants using car seats on board, and infants are defined by them as being under 2. So I’m pretty sure your 2 year old will have to just sit in their own seat without a car seat. I hope that helps

You should be able to use your every day car seat on the plane. You'll just install it with the lap belt on the plane. Make sure your seat is approved for airplane use.

We are taking a Joie steadi on our holiday with easy jet in a couple of weeks. I’m putting it in the hold though, my daughter will be just under 2 and I got confirmation that she can be on my lap for take off and then in her own seat for the rest. Someone has posted before on one of the car seat groups that they took their Joie steadi on board and it did fit in the seat though, hope this helps x

@Danielle she will be 1 when we fly (turns 2 the next day!) and then 2 when we return Easy jet have been a pain

@Lou it’s so confusing. Easy jet have been a pain with telling me the right information from the start 😩

@Hannah you don’t need one even if she’s 1, they just sit on your lap. You can use one, but you’ll have to book an extra seat for it so it’ll cost you more. On the way back I don’t think you’ll be able to use it either way as she’ll be 2. She’ll just need you to book her a seat

@Charlotte our car seat is Iso-fix and planes don’t have this, so it wouldn’t be accepted I don’t think 😯

@Hannah In the US car seats can be installed with iso-fix or with a seatbelt. Is that not the case in the UK? Check your manual to see if seatbelt installation is permitted

You definitely don’t need a car seat - I’ve flown easyJet when my son was under 2 - I actually booked him his own seat which he sat it when we were in the air but they can sit on your lap for take off and landing

@Lou can I ask you this. I’ve just rang easy jet and been advised the following… As she is booked as an infant on the way out she can sit on my lap and then in her own chair during the flight (no car seat needed) I can check in car seat for free I then need to ring easy jet when we get to our destination to change her from infant to child (as she will be 2y/o on our return On the way back, it’s my own preference. She can sit on my lap OR in the car seat for take off & landing and then be in her own chair. If we don’t want to use the car seat we pass it to the cabin crew at boarding Does this sound correct to you please?

@Charlotte no from what I’ve seen UK aircraft don’t have iso fix, only seat belt attachments

@Lauren this is what I’ve just been told ku easy jet when I rang. Finally someone who sounds like they know what their talking about (I hope 🙏🏽)

If they are over 2 you definitely don’t need a car seat they can just sit in the seat - sounds very similar to what I did when I fly I.E. he had he’s own seat - all I did was tell Customer services online that he was an infant etc. x

@Hannah Airplanes do not have iso-fix because the bottom cushion is a floatation device. But if you car seat allows for seatbelt installation and is approved to use on an airplane, you can install it on the airplane using the airplane seat lap belt by routing it through the correct belt path

Graco extend lx R129, it’s the same seat as the Joie Steadi

Just check the car seat in, be far easier than carting it to the gate with everything else you have to carry, but finding one that fits the narrow seats

@Emma that’s what I’m thinking too. We’ll need to take one anyway for the taxi transfers so we’ll just check it in and pray it comes out the other end. The taxis do provide one but I don’t know what they’re crash tested too, so rather take our own as a precaution if you see what I mean?

So this is my experience I have been travelling with Easyjet since my son was 6 months he is now 2 years From infant to 2 years - they sit on your lap 2 years onwards they have their own seat which is amazing and to be honest, my son loves it and so much easier cause they can play and be entertained especially if travelling with 3 of you you get three seats so don't have to share with anyone. Car seat - I normally just take my car set with me - mine is not Isofix I have Joie all stages. I checked it in. However, when I don't take a car seat when booking a taxi I ask them / tell them I need a car seat they ask which way forward or rear - you tell them and they provide you with a taxi with car seats in it normally the way you like. I just checked it in safely and that's us away x t

@Chelsea I didn’t think so but the easy jet staff over the phone said so. But I’ve rang today and spoken to someone who knows their stuff and I now know I don’t actually need one. She can be on mine or my husbands lap for landing and take off. What a faff on its been

@Hannah hey sorry just got the notification! I’m not with easyJet unfortunately! That does sound about right but I wouldn’t have thought you would need to phone as they have her passport details so will be counted as passenger number coming back? (As she’s over 2) unless they just take the time of booking as age and it doesn’t update? Have you booked an actual seat for her both ways? X but handing the car seat to the crew is normal x

@Lou they’ve been pretty consistent with me saying I have to ring them. They have her booked as an infant and an object as that’s how they do it ? Seems weird. , so they say they have to take off the object and change her to a child? Yeah she has a seat booked both way, we’re on a row of 3 together each way x

@Christine 💕🤍 this is my debate now. As I can request a car seat for the taxi transfers. (We’re going Paris airport to Disneyland, so only 40 mins) so I don’t know wether to take a car seat just in case but it’s more faff to carry ect or just not take one as we won’t need it for the flights (right??) and taxi can provide one. What would you do? It’s our first time travelling with her like this and airport is 2.5-3 hours from home so can’t be caught out with not having anything

@Christine 💕🤍 also, sounds like you travel a lot ? Which toys or games do you find makes the trip easier with your little boy? 🙏🏽

@Hannah I’d 100% just book a car seat with the taxis. That’s what we do. So much easier that lugging your own abroad just for 2 taxi runs

@Hannah so snacks all their favourite snacks is a must . Toys I bring these things 1. Table with all his favourite movies he love Disney movies 2. Puzzles - for young kids the ones you put together with the big pieces . 3. Colouring books 4. Leapfrog singing / talking books 6. Busy board 7. His favourite teddy 8. His favourite toy - he loves cars - as in cars the movie so he as one of those . That’s what I mainly take for him as he grows we take different things but at the moment that’s what we took on our summer holidays and it worked wonders xx

@Danielle and we’re only there 3 and a bit days 😬

@Christine 💕🤍 that’s what we’re thinking. I don’t know what speed the taxi car seats are tested too / installed correctly so I think maybe best to bring our own. Will have to buy one though… as we only have iso fix. My daughter is really tall as well so she needs room and if she’s squished up well pay for it on the journeys and it’s not worth it. We’re driving to the airport so the drive there is fine, it’s the transfers to and from the hotel to airport. Easy jet said she can either sit on my lap with on the way back or in her own seat (she’ll have just turned 2, 2 days prior) xx
