My 2 yr old can count from 1-10, sing the alphabet

and many other songs. But he still doesn’t speak regular conversations, doesn’t really say any real words except phrases he picks up from his screen time like “ready set go”. But he’s pretty nonverbal in everything else and just babbles a lot. We are on the waiting list for an evaluation and speech therapy but I just wanted to know if anyone has experienced this where your toddler doesn’t speak regular day to day words but can count and sings? So does that mean he’s choosing not to speak on purpose?

My son is the same way! He's definitely getting more verbal as of lately but he can count, knows his colors, can sing songs but just doesn't speak as much as other kids overall.

We got him evaluated for speech and early intervention but they said he was within the normal range for kids his age so we can get him reevaluated at 2.5 if we feel he may still need help.

doesn't hurt to do the evaluation if you're concerned but according to our speech therapist boys are typically slower in language for some reason

That’s not really my son’s issue, though he is delayed in speech. He struggles more with imitation. But we finally had an evaluation with a SLP, and she suggestion combining silly sounds with words to make it more appealing to speak and imitate. Also reading books in a really sing-song way can help. And if he’s really set on not speaking, know that that’s ok, and when he has something to say, he’ll say it. Just do your best to get him some extra support and work on his receptive language skills

My daughter is just like this, but she has been taking speech therapy since about 20 months old. When she enrolled they said she was right on the border of needing therapy and I pushed for it a little. We're also in the process of getting her evaluated for autism and her first test had the doctor pretty sure she's on the spectrum, which makes the speech make sense for her. But I've been told that her current speech is borderline delayed. We've definitely seen huge improvement with her speech since starting therapy though!

My son is 2 and I think she said he is 12 months behind. We are in speech therapy and he is progressing! He knows more than he is willing to say and was not immitating either. He is now. I opened one of those babys first word books and asked him where is duck, shoes, banana? He knew almost all the pictures in the book and would point to them. I have started turning the TV off more and putting tablets up. It allows for more interaction. Also if you have animal toys and a book of animals you could open the book and have the toys laid out beside it and say, where's the cow and see if he can put the cow on the book page where he sees the cow. It's interaction and silly sounds. Or dinosaurs, or shapes, or whatever you have that let's them play a game while trying to match things up and talk. Also I started making sure I said easy words and made animal sounds more basic bok bok for chicken and not being overly animated with my neigh. Easier thing for him to copy.

My boyfriend booked a trip for us to go to mexico for a week as my push present. I have severe anxiety leaving my 7 month old with my mom. I know she will be in good hands but she’s exclusively breast fed for the most part but accepts bottles just fine. i have all my pumping parts packed and will pump when baby normally eats but i don’t want baby to forget me or have latch issues when i return!! any mommas ever experience this?

Postpartum

I’m only 3 days postpartum (FTM) and already have extremely bad anxiety. I’m crying every night, as I think of another night of no sleep. My baby will not settle in his cot, he cries every moment we put him down unless in his chair rocker. So me and my partner are having to alternate after 3/4 hours of being awake with him downstairs. I’m trying everything to get him to settle. It’s a load of overwhelming stress. I’m 23, I was desperate for a baby and now I have one and feel completely useless. I miss it just being me and my partner.

When does it get better?

I was crying on the phone with the perinatal mental health team today and the lovely lady, bless her, kept assuring me that it gets better. I kept telling her I hope so because people have been saying that since having my LO and it just feels like it keeps getting worse. She assured me it gets better....

Night time routine

Heya, my 3 week old daughter is currently exclusively breastfed and I’m not pumping. Can anyone recommend the best way to share the load with my partner? At the moment I’m doing all the feeds/burbs/settling and my partner is sleeping through which obviously isn’t sustainable, I’m trying to work out the best way to get him involved. Any advice very much appreciated!

Rant/WWYD

My sister (youngest, 24) has two kids, 4 & 1, and i (oldest, 30) just have my one who’s 6mo old right now, so i ask her for advice or call her to vent about things sometimes. Well im tired of her turning around and telling my other family members that I’m “losing my sh*t.” Literally have not lost my sh*t nor have i ever freaked out to her about my baby, i just call her to talk and tell her what stage my baby is in or talk through how im feeling, but she chooses to tell people that im like a complete nutcase or something which worries me that my family is going to start being judgmental about me as a mother or looking at me funny like I’m some fragile ticking time bomb.

What would you do in this situation? I’m already pretty much decided that I’ll stop telling her anything about my struggles, but I’m almost at the point where i feel like it should be confronted because she, of all people, should understand what I’m going through.

Rapid cool/ hot shot method

Sorry if this sound stupid but how are we doing the hot shot method?
Are we boiling the kettle and letting it cool a little before adding to hot flask? Then with the cool water do you boil the kettle and leave it to cool right down before putting into another flask?
My baby brain is fried trying to work out the easiest way!
