Early signs of autism?

Try to get him into Early Intervention. His pediatrician should be able to give you a referral. From there EI will help you set up an appointment to get him diagnosed. My son was the same. He was diagnosed at 2 1/2.

Does your son imitate you? For example if you were to show him how to play with a toy he’s never seen before would he try copy you?
Does he look at you in excitement when he comes across something he likes or look back you to see if you are following him?
There was a third but I’ve forgotten what it is. Apparently If he can do these three then it’s most likely not autism.

I called the health visitor and the have referred me to get his ears checked to see if that’s why he isn’t responding and a speech therapist she said they can’t do anything about the autism because he is too young. And won’t do anything until his 2 year check

this is what they said about my daughter, they never took me serious and it’s been 7 months I’m still waiting for her hearing test!! She has now been referred to JADES for an assessment thanks to a hv run group I attend for additional needs children, it’s called sparkles see if your area do this you’d have to ask the hv’s and if not if they can recommend a similar group for children with additional needs as I wouldn’t be in the position I am now if it wasn’t for that group I kept getting told she’s to young etc and she has so many signs of being on the spectrum. I would say educate your self with the internet videos etc and support groups like this ( there’s such a wide spectrum and I didn’t know anything at first )as it’s the only help and education as such I’ve had as they haven’t helped me or supported in anyway ( apart from

It's too early to tell because at this age the same behaviours can have multiple causes, and some of those causes can be physical (like deafness mentioned above), which it's important to rule out. Also, autistic children at this age are very diverse and will all have shown different traits to each other, just as we continue to do for the rest of our lives! For example, both developmental delay and merting milestones early can be associated with autism. Being autistic is less about the way we seem to other people and more about our internal experience of the world.

There are groups setup by autistic adults to help parents of autistic children on Facebook etc. These are the best places to look for advice because they center autistic experiences.

It sounds like signs of autism. However, there was some good advice above. They won't test for it until around 2 years old. They thought my child was deaf and tested them for it with a regular hearing test and a special brain-ear connection hearing test, and there was no hearing loss. About 1.5 years after the hearing tests, my child was diagnosed with autism. Before the autism diagnosis, my child was already in pt, ot, and speech, though, for global development delays. Depending on where you live, the medical care system, and insurance, you may be able to have your child evaluated for delays in ot, pt, and Speech in order to start therapy before an autism diagnosis.

Flapping his arms around is one sign of autism, but I would bring it up to his Pediatric doctor and have them test him for it. I have high functioning autism when I’ve had it since I was born that’s how I know, but the flapping arms, but like I said, bring up to the pediatric doctor and have them, give a look over it about what he’s doing. They can tell you exactly if he’s doing something that’s autistic or if it’s something different and maybe it’s some type of different diagnosis
