I’m at a loss with my 21 month old.
Previously she slept amazing. She always has, and she’s always been incredibly independent. She has never been the kid who wanted to be held or cuddled, she didn’t like contact naps, and she thrives in her own space. She is a daddy’s girl through and through, and truly rarely even wants me.
In the past five weeks we have welcomed baby sister and moved to a new house. I understand this may have a lot to do with our current situation.
In the past two weeks she has become a HORRIBLE sleeper and a terror to get down. She cries until she hyperventilates, sometimes within a matter of 20 seconds. This can happen immediately at bedtime or anytime throughout the night. She’s up constantly as well throughout the night. It can sometimes take us hours to get her to bed and to fall asleep.
My husband and I are both against bed sharing (it really freaks us out because of all the stories we have heard from our friend who is an ER nurse at Children’s. Plus, we like our space for just us to connect at night). However, the only way we have gotten her to sleep is by letting her come in our bed to cuddle me. At this point, I feel like she might be crying to come sleep by us.
Regardless, we are at a loss of how to help her sleep well again. It’s impacting every aspect of her behavior and mood throughout the day, and my husband and I are exhausted. Our newborn sleeps better than her, and we want to be there to help her, but we have no idea how.
