Hey y’all! My pediatrician told me to start my son on solids to help reduce reflux. Today I tried for the first time to give him baby oatmeal with formula. I did a spoon or two and he took it but started crying and screaming as if he was hungry, probably bc he tasted the formula. I continued to try the spoon but he wouldn’t stop crying so I offered food from the bottle which he took ( I was planning to do 5oz bottle and 1 oz oatmeal) however after tasting from the bottle he refused to take the oatmeal on the spoon. Is this normal for a first time? How do you suggest we fix this, just practice? Do you do bottle then oatmeal or oatmeal and then bottle? Thanks In advance!!!!

I was told bottle 30 minutes before food and then a top up feed if needed x

Milk first so they're more willing to eat. I wouldn't put oatmeal in the bottle though especially that amount. You risk choking 😔
thanks for responding! I meant 5oz in bottle and 1 oz of formula/oatmeal in a bowl and fed with a spoon!

Gotcha. Also don't be discouraged by refusal. I know it's for reflux but that can be a sign that he's not ready for solids. So go as slowly as your baby wants as pushing food can have a negative and opposite reaction later on. Is he able to sit well?
he sits with assistance but has great head control

Just try slowly it may be he's not ready yet even though he's showing the signs. He may just need to start really slow. Do the bottle first then food
