So I’m pumping only and I’ve read that you should empty your boobs while pumping but I also read that you shouldn’t go over 30 mins.
I pump for around 20-25 mins and I just don’t know how to tell if my boobs are empty or not.
I still can see milk coming out when I’m done.
Also my nipples hurt if I go more than 20-25 mins

Pump for 20 mins rest for 10 mins than Pump for 10 mins

My doctor has told me it really depends on what my goal is. If your already making enough milk then emptying isn't necessarily important as your body can take that as a signal to create more milk in the future, which could lead to a painful over supply. If your happy with your milk levels, my doctor said pump for 10-20 minutes or until that fullness feeling goes away!

Also, I have found that wearing silver nipple covers in between feeds/pumps and slathering on Earth Mama's organic nipple butter before pumping goes a long way.

I was pumping for 40 mins In the beginning but lactation consultant told me better to do shorter and more frequent. She said 10 mins but I always found I needed to do a bit longer to get mine going so I would do 12-20. Biggest thing for milk supply is to pump frequently.
