I have a 3 and a half year old. His vocabulary on individual words is good. If you ask him what something is or whats going on he can tell you in 4 words sentances but only if asked questions. He requests things with 1 word and when frustrated it turns into unidentifiable words.
How do I help? We dont qualify for ST but looking into some private sessions but its super pricey but I want to help any way I can.
Anyone has a child that spoke late. I feel alone in this. I am trying everything and don't know what to do now. š©
I may have to pick up a second job to enroll in speech
Ps. I have posted this with no response. Hoping for any positive outcomes or anything. Thanks

I would try to gently encourage using a full sentence when he asks for something. Sometimes my LO just points and I ask her what she wants(Definitely not just retrieving the object even if it's obvious!). If she says "juice", I say alright how do we ask for juice? Sometimes she'll get frustrated and just shout the word again repeatedly and I'll say "No thank you I don't need you to yell(and comfort if needed) I'll help, we say: "Mama"(pause for her to repeat), please may I have(pause again) my juice?(allow for repeat)" Then I'll say "Yes!!! We say mama please may I have some juice! Thank you for asking me so nicely here you go." After lots of repetition and gentle correction my LO has really improved with that.

Yeah it's very common for a child to not really speak until 4-4.5 years old. Even 5. He's shy. He's processing a lot. Could do flash cards at home, is he in daycare? This is a very common trait in toddlers. 4-14 kids in my daughter's room currently don't really speak whatsoever. They'll get there on their own time & it'll be day n night like š you could speak that whole time? Lol
yes he can label and do flahcards but still working on combining words. Thanks for putting this in perspective. I keep hoping I'll wake up with a LO speaking loads. Well he does, but this doesn't always make sense or is understood by others
thanks. Even though it sounds simple , it is something I need to work on.
definitely something I'm working on! I used to always give things without requests or words. Thanks for the examples. It helped me understand how I should be speaking to him a bit better
