Induction

Doctor gave me the news that my blood pressure is too high.. and he’d like to induce me on Monday. Which will be my 37th week mark! I’m terrified .. because I hear induction is worse painful contractions… can anyone help calm me down by telling me your induction stories?

PROS
- Induction can equal quick labor
- No surprises as far as when you will deliver

CONS
- Can be very painful, unfortunately. That’s just a reality. 😕

Just give yourself grace. If you need to go the epidural route, that’s okay!

I was induced, the contractions I experienced weren’t terrible, I did pull up hypnobirthing videos to help me breathe through them. I ended up getting an epidural because my labor was very slow, I had been in labor for about 14 hours by that point and needed to sleep, then when I woke up they lowered the epidural dose so I could feel while pushing. Overall I had a good experience even though induction wasn’t what I wanted. Look up some positive induction stories on youtube, it helped me a lot beforehand. Good luck!

Induction doesn’t always work, I would be asking if there’s anything you can do to help bring down your blood pressure.

Worst thing that happened to me was induction!! I hope you just give birth naturally x

I was induced with my second. Unfortunately the contractions for me personally were bad considering my water broke on its own with my first. I wouldn't recommend it but if it's for the best go for it besides everyone's pain tolerance is different. Try looking up some positive stories instead there's always a brighter side. Not saying it would be bad for you but that was my personal experience. Good luck mama!

may I ask why it was the worst thing for you??

Avatar

yes! I have.. and They keep increasing my medicine.. 😔 and they said there’s nothing they can do now

The contractions were soo painful. I also had Group B strep so they couldn’t check how many CM I was. From the experience I had, the contractions are very intense and the pessary they use to start contractions is so uncomfortable.

ugh I hate that for you, I’m so anti induction but if that’s your only option it is what it is. It doesn’t mean you can’t have a good labor. If you don’t progress quickly with induction I’d just me mindful of them pushing more and more methods on you. I had a scheduled c-section for medical reasons and would do that 1000x over before getting induced.

My doc is saying induction as well. I begged for a c-section but they told me no unless induction doesn't work.

Avatar

oh no! Did you get the epidural??

Avatar

I want to get a c section so bad !!

Avatar

I would push for that then, induction and epidural increase the need of an emergency c-section. I would be searching for another physician willing to do the c-section. My OB team the first time was happy to support my decision to have a c-section. I had mine due to tachycardia and my resting heart rate was so high they weren’t sure how it would progress with the stress of labor. My c section was absolutely fantastic and I will have another one in March for my second baby.

Avatar

yes, I voiced my opinion on having a c section so many times … with no one taking it. 😔 sadly, my doctors office only has one doctor … it’s a sad thing girl lol

Avatar

That’s terrible! C section is horrible. I had both things happen to me!! Emergency C section was the worst. I was in post trauma for so many weeks.

But, have a positive mind. Everything will go well. I think it all starts with your mind. Good luck x

My cousin was recently induced and she had a great experience. She went in at 7 pm and they gave her a 1/4 of a pill to help ripen her cervix and within the hour she was having contractions so never needed multiple doses of the medication to begin contractions. She had the epidural placed at midnight that night and they have to roll you every hour so she said she didn’t sleep at all that night but her water was on the verge of breaking the next morning and so the Dr came in and broke it and she started pushing and had him 45 mins later!

I was induced with four of my children. My fifth I has naturally. I would choose induction anytime over not knowing when to expect lol. I had no time to ask for any pain relief during my natural birth.

Avatar

that makes me feel better thank you!

Avatar

thanks for this post. I’m also set to be induced on the 26th and I’m nervous as well. I would definitely have preferred it the natural way but they say it’s too risky to wait due to my GD.

Anyone been induced before? Was it more painful? Better than thought? Worse than thought? Worth it? Thoughts?

Induction or c section?

As a last resort, would you rather be induced or have a planned c section?

Really not liking the thought of being induced from people’s experiences I’ve read!

Almost 37 weeks + told to do another growth scan

I just had my second to last doctor’s appointment this morning, and my OB told me she wants me to do another growth scan because my belly is measuring small. She says it’s probably just because I’m a smaller woman, but they like to be safe. It’s hard to hear though, since I just did one a couple months ago.

I did this with my firstborn around this time of pregnancy, so I do think I just carry smaller (even though I don’t feel like I look “small” at all). My first baby was 6lbs 15oz when she was born at 41 weeks + 2 days. I’m having this baby at 39 weeks on April 7. I hope she’s still at least 6lbs.

Anyone have any stories similar to this?
