Hi all my 4.5 month old little boy had started to really fight his naps and there are now lots of tears. This happens at bedtimes as well. I try not to let him go over 2 hours of wake time during the day but he will only settle with a dummy. He is combo fed but just breast through the night. Wondering if this is the regression and maybe I just have to ride it out a bit. Maybe remove the dummy once he gets a bot older??

Is there a reason you are against him settling with a dummy?
Being more fussy and unsettled can be part of a leap they go through, not necessarily a regression. But I wouldn't say now wanting a dummy is a regression
If he's happy I'd let him go with & you can remove it further down the line
Better a dummy than his thumb as that's not as easy to remove 𤣠xx

My lg only takes her dummy when she's tired, but I'd rather that than her thumb, I didn't have a dummy when I was wee and still suck my thumb on occasion 𤣠xx

@Joyce I guess I've just read it's not a great thing to use to get them to sleep. At the moment he doesn't tend to wake when it falls out and he managed to keep it in his mouth from 7 until about midnight last night 𤣠I'm happy to keep it tbh but my partner doesn't really like it!

once itās been introduced the lullaby trust say itās best to keep with it as taking it away after being introduced can increase risk of SIDS. I donāt really know the science behind it but this is what my HV told me when she asked about dummies as I said sometimes heāll not take it so I was thinking of getting rid. She said to wait until 6 months and then get rid of it once the SIDS risk is minimal xx

@Courtney oh that's really interesting. He's screaming absolute murder without it at the moment š

My boy only naps with a dummy and itās a nightmare. Iāve tried to take it away so many times but also read that it is unsafe to do so until 6m+, so now trying to teach him how to replace it himself. If he canāt replace it himself by 6m Iāll be taking it away if itās still causing short naps (he wakes if it falls out and then wonāt go back to sleep most of the time!!!)
Iāve managed to get him to go to bed for the night without it but he will wake for it at about 3am then constantly wakes for it to be replaced š
If he doesnāt wake for it to be replaced then it really isnāt an issue. Xx
