Hey all was just wondering when you actually receive universal credit for your baby, I’ve been getting paid on the 2nd of every month. I’m due 6 of dec. will I not actually receive money for him until January? Just abit confused and worried as me and the babies dad are no longer together and I’m struggling with what I have. TAI x

When baby is born that’s when you report it to uc

you have to kinda log the baby’s birth so i had my baby early but was due a payment the week after i had him in feb i made changes to who lives with me and put the baby down and then i received the baby’s payment with my next pay in march xx

If I remember correctly you need to add baby to your claim through ‘report a change’ as soon as they’re born and you’ll start receiving the child element on the following pay providing he or she is within that assessment period. If you used to receive UC with your partner on your claim then report a change again and make sure they know you’re single etc.
not sure if you already know but as you’re on UC you will be entitled to the maternity grant, you can apply up to 11 weeks before baby’s Due date and uo to 6 months after. It’s £500 and won’t effect what you’re receiving from UC x

Am here for some advice too so am due my lil boy on the 1st Nov I get paid the 13th shall I put him down now I always thought you needed a birth certificate to add children onto your claim x
ohhh I see! Thank you! X

your welcome!!
yeah I told them when I was 18 weeks. I applied for the grant when I was 30 weeks and still haven’t heard anything back, maybe I can’t get it 😂thank you though lovely! X

I get paid on the 4th had my baby on the 6th. Changed it in my log that I had given birth and they make an appointment to prove baby is born so when you have registered baby. Then mine for some reason wasn’t paid for 3months I kept bugging them and I got it back paid. You can apply for healthy start vouchers if you’re on uc and can get them from 10 weeks pregnant! I used mine in heron as they are usually pretty good with using it on anything so long as you buy milk/veg too xxx

They will tell you if you’re not entitled, I wasn’t because my maternity allowance was too much but never received the letter although they said they sent one- utter bull!! Ring them and ask what their decision was they will tell you, it’s a massive ballache to get through and I started receiving UC after coming off MA when my boy was 2 months and that made me entitled to it so I applied again but put in the notes that I had applied before and was refused but my financial circumstances have changed and they awarded it me.. it is a pain i won’t lie as the government hate to give out money and will get around it if they can but it was worth the hassle of ringing and then re applying because I got it! You’re 100% entitled to it if you are on Uc with no other income! Xx

i applied for the grant when i was 28 weeks yet somehow didn’t get it until a week before my due date which was annoying x

Although if you applied at 30 weeks and due in dec I’m assuming you’re around 34 weeks now so they might still be looking at it as I think it can take more than 4 weeks for a decision X

I added my daughter and got paid for her her next month. CHB took 6-8weeks

Report a change when baby is born I had to go job centre to provide proof of birth I used nhs number that you get when baby is born. He was born 19th and I get payed on 25th but had to wait for appointment and stuff so didn’t actually get payed till following month x
