I’ve been trying my hardest to EBF.. it’s day 10 for us and though I can see milk coming out when I squeeze my nipple.. my baby just isn’t full from the boob. She’s on it at night for 1-2 hrs at a time and in the day approx 45mins and wants it every second (shes constantly hungry and just doesn’t seem full or settled..
So I’ve been giving her 2-3oz of formula after the boob (in the morning and evening ) but just feel like I’m letting her down and my body is failing. She has wet nappies but not sure if it’s the formula top up that’s contributing to that .
I’m drinking 2L of water and have just ordered some lactation cookies .
I’m desperate to EBF and for her to feel full on a feed, but feel so bad that she only seems full after having the formula as a top up..

I had the same problem. My baby is now 12 days old and was being breastfed every 45mins/1 hour especially at night and I was giving formula of 2/3oz to top up. But turned out my baby had a tongue tie and wasn’t picked up so she wasn’t latching on straight away. And wasn’t getting enough. I have tried expressing as she is just a hungry baby.
It is so hard to do breastfeeding it’s exhausting but you are doing a great job

I'm having the same problem and topping up with formula every feed. I have a 5 year old so I don't have time to pump in between feeds.
I felt bad at the beginning but am remembering to be kind to myself. She's five weeks old and thriving. Do what you can. Xx

We've been combi feeding since day 5 because of weight loss. Baby feeds direct from breast for anything from 10-30mins, is offered both breasts and then offered bottle if still showing feeding cues.
Overnight some feeds just has formula so I can sleep and partner can feed!
Do what works for you and try not to feel bad. 😊

Thank you ladies
when we did her heel prick test , the midwife said she had a small tongue tie but not to worry about it.
I’m now thinking if that could be the problem.
How was ur tongue tie resolved? Maybe il call the midwife

Im doing the exact same, he’ll start on me sometimes that fills him other times he has a bottle after. His latch is hit and miss and I’m not producing as much as he’s eating. I’ve been taking some fenugreek and have seen the difference already so highly recommended that

I have just had a tongue tie assessment and my baby is not tongue tied... you should be looking out for latching issues, is your baby sticking their tongue out? Is your nipple, squished/ sore? All signs that your baby can't latch.
Nipple shields have helped me when I've felt like she's struggled to latch because my breasts are too full/ round making it hard to latch so you could try this but they're only meant for short term help. Ask for a referral for a breastfeeding specialist/ tongue tie referral if you're really struggling 👍
Or you can start expressing/ collecting your let down milk to try and bottle feed as a top up but the less milk your baby gets/ more you use the formula you're not going to make as much breast milk
But honestly breastfeeding has been the hardest thing ever, my baby is 2.5 weeks old now and whilst it's so much better now we've still not mastered it, be kind to yourself ❤️
