Really struggling with my 2 half year old sleeping. We have been trying cry it out/sitting at edge of her room and letting her to go sleep which can take a hour or so initially at bedtime and then she’s wakes up after a hour and the whole process starts again. She still co-sleeps at night which we hope to get her out of but I’m just struggling with what to do.
Any suggestions more than welcome at this point from a guilt ridden tired mum

Hey my daughter was the exact same! I got a plan from the sleep consultant which worked after day 3 and was the crying method too. It also took an hour the first night when I sat in her room and I wasn’t allowed to communicate with her even when she hysterically cried but she eventually went to sleep knowing I wasn’t attending to her then day 2 it took half hour and she fell asleep then it got easier and I eventually said goodnight and walked out and she self soothed herself so jus persist with the method it does work! Hi, I'm just almost out of it myself (let's not saying it too loud) I've tried plenty of methods and this last one seems to be working. I don't know if it depends of how you are raising them (absolutely not saying you are doing something wrong I'm just saying what we do)but what I do at night it's the same I do during the day. We compromise all day long. For example he comes back from nursery and throws shoes and jacket on the floor and comes because he wants a snack and I say "you can have a snack but put away your stuff first" if he doesn't want to then I say "ok, no snack. If you want it put away the stuff" or something similar. Key is to keep your promise if he does it...so don't promise the moon 🤣 don't know if it's a correct thing to do or not but this works for us. At night time I'm trying this and so far seems to work. I let him read 2 books, then he puts them back and then we wawe goodnight to the books. I say now you have finished your books it's time to sleep...cont

Cont...now I'm getting a yes for answers but it was a straightforward NO. So the first days I would put him in the crib, cry a lot, wait a couple of minutes and say "do you want a hug/kiss and he says yes and I say absolutely but then you go to bed" make sure he understands this, I'll give you a hug and you go to bed. Give hug/kiss, extra if they are really upset. And then I say" mum it's just here (we share the room so I go in my bed) and I'm here for you but now it's time to sleep" and I go to bed. Cries again wait 3-4 Min (5 if you are able to but more than 4 and my heart was shattering so I never arrived at 5) but no more than 5, then again"do you want a kiss? Yes but you need to bed" or "do you want a hug? I can cover you tightly under the duvet if you're cold" and so on... You need patience, can take even a couple of hours the first night. We are now at night 4 and it only takes 15 mins and getting better. I tried the cry it out but was not good for my mental health. Cont...

Cont... I was too stressed and you need to be calm and make them understand that you are there for them but it's time to sleep. This is my experience, not saying it's correct but it's what worked for us ☺️ I'm sure you'll find yours as well. I also asked my health visitor for a sleep trainer and they gave me some advice some good some bad, you use what you think it's more appropriate for your kid. Hope this helps a bit and good luck, it's hard I know but you'll find your way. ❤️❤️❤️Sorry for the long post
